IRISH MOVIES

Estes primeiros dias de 2018 estava fazendo uma espécie de retrospectiva mental dos filmes irlandeses que tinha visto no cinema no ano passado, cheguei ao número de 13 filmes! Mesmo a Irlanda sendo tão pequena tem uma filmografia muito interessante e que vale a pena conferir. Então vamos falar um pouco de cada um deles e te convido a assisti-los. E se quiser fale para a gente o que achou. Inclusive 5 deles já estão no Netflix. Algumas producões não são necessariamente de 2017, nas foram assistidas pela gente no ano passado. Diversos filmes são co-produções, mas o roteiro, diretor, atores, etc são da Ilha Esmeralda.

On  these early days of 2018 I was making a kind of mental retrospective of the Irish films I had seen in the cinema last year, I managed to watch 13 films! Even Ireland being so small it has a very interesting filmography that is worth checking out. So let's talk about each one of them and I invite you to watch them all. And if you want, please tell us what you think about them. And 5 of them are already on Netflix. Some productions are not necessarily from 2017, but we watched them last year. Several films are co-productions, but the script, director, actors, etc. are from the Emerald Isle.

                                      AMIZADES / FRIENDSHIPS

The Young Offenders - dois amigos tentam conseguir alguns pacotes de drogas de um navio que naufragou. Toda a produção foi rodada em Cork. Fez muito sucesso nos cinemas e agora o canal RTE vai fazer uma série com os rapazes. 

The Young Offenders - Two friends try to get some packets of drugs from a ship that sank. The entire production was filmed in Cork. It was very successful in theaters and now the RTE channel will have a series with the guys.

Handsome Devil - dois garotos de um internato são obrigados a dormir no mesmo quarto apesar de serem totalmente diferentes. A partir dali surge uma bela amizade. Tanto The Young Offenders como este já estão disponíveis no Netflix. 

Handsome Devil - Two boys from a boarding school are forced to share the same room despite being totally different from each other. From there comes a beautiful friendship. Both The Young Offenders and this one are already available on Netflix.

             Problemas Psicológicos / Psychological Problems

The Drummer and the Keeper - Dois rapazes tem de enfrentar seus problemas mentais e psicológicos: um é bipolar e piromaníaco, o outro sofre da Síndrome de Asperger. A convivência de ambos vai te cativar. 

The Drummer and the Keeper - Two boys have to face their mental and psychological problems: one is bipolar and pyromaniac, and the other suffers from Asperger Syndrome. Their coexistence will hook you.

Sanctuary - Este filme aborda a história de um grupo de adultos que sofrem de diversos problemas psicológicos e vão passar uma tarde num cinema de Galway. Ambos os filmes são delicados e sempre usam um humor muito respeitoso para tratar  temas tão delicados. 

Sanctuary - This film takes the story of a group of adults suffering from various psychological problems, and they all go to spend an afternoon at a Galway cinema. Both films are delicate and always use a very respectful humour to deal with such delicate subjects.

CRIME 

Carboard Gangsters - aqui o tema é o submundo do crime sobre um grupo de jovens que mora na periferia de Dublin. Eles vendem drogas leves. Quando a situação econômica piora, eles resolvem se envolver com drogas mais pesadas. O sotaque dos meninos é muito forte! Mas vale a pena o esforço. Este é o filme nacional mais assistido na Irlanda em 2017.

Carboard Gangsters - Here the theme is the underworld of crime on a group of young people living on the outskirts of Dublin. They sell light drugs. When the economic situation worsens, they decide to engage with heavier drugs. The boys' accent is very strong! But it's worth the effort. This was the most watched national film in Ireland in 2017.

Maze - aborda a história real de 38 prisioneiros que conseguem fugir de uma prisão em Belfast na década de 80 de século passado. 

Maze - it addresses the true story of 38 prisoners who managed to escape from a prison in Belfast last century in the 80s.

COMÉDIA / COMMEDY

Halal Daddy - comédia muito agradável e leve que conta como um rapaz de origem muçulmana e sem experiência tenta abrir um abatedouro halal em Sligo! 

Halal Daddy - very pleasant and light comedy that tells how an inexperienced guy of Muslim origin tries to open a halal slaughterhouse in Sligo!

ROMANCE

Twice Shy - o tema da aborto na Irlanda é muito sensível. O país tem uma das leis mais duras no mundo contra o aborto. E este filme trata justamente sobre a viagem de uma garota que vai até a Inglaterra para a realização de um aborto. 

Twice Shy - the subject of abortion in Ireland is very sensitive. The country has one of the toughest laws in the world against abortion. And this film is about the journey of a girl who goes to England to have an abortion.

Sing Street - delicioso filme que trata sobre a difícil passagem da adolescência para a vida adulta. A trilha sonora é incrível. Já está no Netflix. 

Sing Street - a delightful film about the difficult transition from teenagerhood to adulthood. The soundtrack is incredible. It is already on Netflix.

The Secret Scripture - Jim Sheridan é um dos principais diretores de cinema irlandeses. Aqui mostra a historia de um psicólogo que tem de avaliar a estado mental de uma senhora que está prestes a ser despejada do asilo onde vive. Ela vai contar o que aconteceu na sua vida e porque foi parar ali. Não é o melhor filme de Sheridan. E a história é bastante forçada. Já está disponível no Netflix. 

The Secret Scripture - Jim Sheridan is one of the top Irish film directors. Here he shows the story of a psychologist who has to assess the mental state of a lady who is about to be evicted from the asylum where she lives. She will tell him what happened in her life and why she ended up there. It's not the best Sheridan movie. And the story is quite pushy. It is already available on Netflix.

TERROR

A Dark Song - uma mulher fica devastada após a perda de seu filho e recorre à magia negra para tentar um contato com a criança. É um bom filme de terror psicológico. 

A Dark Song - A woman is devastated after the loss of her child and uses black magic to try to contact the child. It's a good psychological horror movie.

Without Name - um homem é contratado para catalogar algumas espécies desconhecidas de árvores no interior na Irlanda, mas claro, coisas estranhas não demoram a acontecer.

Without Name - A man is hired to catalog some unknown species of trees in rural Ireland, but of course, strange things soon start to happen.

The Hallow - mais um filme mostrando que as florestas irlandesas tem algo muito assustador. O roteiro deste filme é bastante parecido com o outro, um jovem casal de ingleses se muda com o seu bebe para o interior da Irlanda. Ele pretende catalogar algumas espécies de árvores mas é advertido por moradores locais que deve ficar longe da floresta. Claro que os conselhos não são ouvidos e a situação começa a ficar cada vez mais aterrorizante. Já esta disponível no Netflix. Depois de ver filmes assim, sempre fico um pouco desconfiada quando faço caminhadas em lugares onde a vegetação é mais fechada... hehehe 

The Hallow - another movie showing that the Irish forests have something very scary. The script of this film is very similar to the other, a young English couple moves with their baby to rural Ireland. He plans to catalog some species of trees but is warned by locals that he should stay away from the forest. Of course the advice is not heard and the situation begins to get more and more terrifying. It is already available on Netflix. After watching movies like this, I always get a little suspicious when I walk in places where the vegetation is thicker ... hehehe
