Ring of Gullion
In Ireland it does not snow much, so it is quite rare to see white and snowy landscapes. The Irish mountains looked like Switzerland.
But that is exactly what happened when on a cold Sunday in February we decided to go to County Armagh in Northern Ireland. It was really a surprise for us as we left Dublin on a beautiful and uncommon sunny day. So we did not even remotely expect to see so much snow .
The weather began to change just after we hit the road. The clear sky was slowly covered by many clouds, something that happens practically every day of the year in Ireland. In the distance we could already see the snowy mountains.
A few kilometers ahead we faced a curious snowstorm on the road!
The destination chosen was the Ring of Gullion, considered as an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty (AONB). But it's good to make it clear that the Ring of Gullion is not just one route. There are several possibilities of ways that can be done by car, on foot, by bicycle and even on horseback. So before you leave you have to investigate the area and decide what you want to know. Take a look at this site.
Due to the intense cold our intention was to make the Ring of Gullion by car and we made the Cú Chullain Journey route, we went through the following points: Mullaghbane Center, Ballykeel Dolmen, Silverbridge, Dorsey, Annaghmare, Creggan, Forkhill, Killnassagart and Moyry Castle. These places are important historically and to know more about each one of them just click here and download an audio guide. And that's what we did. But what really charmed us was enjoying nature and the snowy landscape. And it was a lot of snow !! See at one of the stops how the weather was.
The green Irish fields were covered by the icy blanket of snow.
The country houses were even more enchanting.
In the middle of the journey the sun showed up and made the snow very bright.
We stopped at the ruins of Norman castles and the Ballykeel Dolmen - a tomb / portal of the Neolithic period.
In this small cemetery there are important Gaelic artists and poets buried. Besides, in the county of Armagh there is a trail that is called Poets Trail in honor of the famous writers of the region as Daniel O'Neill. The snow has started to get very heavy.
It snowed so much that this traffic sign was totally hidden by the snow.
The Ring of Gullion is really beautiful and deserves to be visited at any time of year - and in our case we were fortunate to have such a special element that was the snow.

Quase todos eles detestam o tempo daqui, o frio. a chuva.
