HOWTH
Howth is a fishing village which is very close to Dublin (about 18 Km) and it is the ideal place for a good walk.
The Howth Summit is the top of a hill and a bus can leave you practically at the highest point, and from there you can go downhill on trails until the beautiful quays of the village. And that's precisely what we did.
The trail is of moderate difficulty in some stretches, so if you are not used to this type of hiking I advise you to do the same thing as we did, take the bus to the summit and go down the hill. The climbing, of course, is heavier.
It is also essential to wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes for uneven terrain. It is also advisable to bring a bottle of water. There are people who enjoy having a picnic during the walk - which is a very interesting idea, considering that you will have sensational views during your snack. As the trail is quite busy, especially during the weekends, go with plenty of time. Besides, you'll want to stop a few times to enjoy and take pictures of sights like this:
Look how this guy took a great risk! He got too close to the cliff!
When you get to the village you will pass by the house where the Irish writer W. B. Yeats lived for 3 years.
In the village, strolling along the beautiful pier (quay) is the best option.
Howth is reputed to have the best fish in Dublin. So, after so much walking do not forget to eat good fish & chips. One of the most famous locations is the Beshoff & Bros, where you order at the counter and eat on the pier watching the boats.
If you prefer some more natural options like soups and smoothies I also recommend the Grass Roots.
Another gastronomic recommendation is the Howth Market with many snack options.
And do not leave Howth without taking a peek at the lovable seals that always show up and sometimes get some food from visitors. But in this case the gull was faster and managed to catch the chips before the seal!
