Banquete Medieval na Irlanda - Medieval Banquet in Ireland

No último post a gente falou sobre as Tower Houses irlandesas como o Dunguaire Castle (no condado de Galway) e deixamos para hoje para falar sobre o Banquete Medieval que acontece lá. Fica a 176 Km de Cork, e 218 Km de Dublin.

On our last post we spoke about the Irish Tower Houses like the Dunguaire Castle (on Galway County) and we left for today to talk about the Medieval Banquet which takes place there. It is 176 Km from Cork, and 218 Km from Dublin.

O Rei de Guaire era uma pessoa que adorava artes e música. Em certa ocasião resolveu fazer um grande Festival que fosse regado a muita comida, canções e poesia. Para isso chamou 150 poetas e músicos da região. O evento foi tão extraordinário que durou 1 ano e meio!

No século 19 um grupo de escritores e intelectuais fez um revival dessa época com o Movimento do Renascimento Gaélico Literário, que teve no escritor W. B. Yeats um de seus maiores representantes.

The King of Guaire was someone who loved arts and music. In a certain occasion, he decided to make a big Festival, which loads of food, music and poetry. For this event he called 150 poets and musicians from the region. The event was so incredible that it lasted for 1 and a half year!
In the 19th Century a group of writers and intellectuals made a revival of this time with the Literary Gaelic Renaissance Movement, which had on the writer W. B. Yeats one of its most outstanding representatives.

Hoje em dia os banquetes medievais do Dunguaire Castle tentam reproduzir um pouco daqueles oferecidos pelo Rei Guaire séculos atrás.

Já na recepção somos recebidos por uma simpática senhora com vestimenta típica medieval que oferece hidromel que aqui é chamado de Mead com copos de cerâmica. Ao fundo uma suave harpa deixa o ambiente acolhedor.

Today the medieval banquets at the Dunguaire Castle try to reproduce a little of those offered by the King Guaire centuries ago. Already in the reception, we are greeted by a nice lady with typical medieval clothing, who offers Mead in ceramic glasses. On the background a soft harp makes the environment very cozy.

Dois atores fazem uma pequena apresentação, recitam poesias, brindamos com hidromel e somos conduzidos ao salão do banquete.

Lá nos esperam longas mesas decoradas com velas e com as entradas já servidas. A couvert é pão irlandês e a autêntica manteiga local. O primeiro prato consiste em uma salada e salmão defumado.

Two actors make a presentation,  recite poems, we toasted with Mead and we were taken to the banquet hall.
There we were being waited by decorated tables with candles, and with the starter dish already served. The couvert is Irish bread and the authentic local butter. The first dish consists in a salad and smoked salmon.

Para beber além do hidromel, há vinho branco, tinto, um ponche de frutas para crianças e água. O segundo prato é uma sopa de batatas com alho poró e pães.

To drink, besides Mead, there are wine and red wine, a fruit punch for the children and water. The second dish is soup of potatoes with leeks and bread.

O prato principal consiste em legumes como vagens, cenouras e batatas, peito de frango e molho de cogumelos.

Há uma opção de arroz e vegetais para os vegetarianos.

The main dish consists in vegetables like peas, carrots and potatoes, chicken breast and mushroom sauce.
There is one option of rice and vegetables for the vegetarians.

O serviço é sempre muito rápido e eficiente. Nunca se espera muito tempo entre um prato e outro. Tudo é permeado por pequenas participações artísticas dos atores contando histórias da região e cantando músicas. Tudo muito agradável.

A sobremesa é uma Apple  Pie com creme batido (um pouco diferente do clássico chantilly pois este creme não é doce).

The service is always fast and efficient. You never wait too much time between one course and the following. Everything is permeated with little artistic parts from the actors telling stories from the region and singing songs. Everything is so pleasant!
The dessert was an Apple Pie with cream (a little different from the classic chantilly, once this one is not sweet).

No final são feitas algumas encenações de textos de famosos escritores irlandeses. Descemos ao primeiro andar e lá nos esperava uma quente xícara de café ou chá.

Saímos todos muito satisfeitos do nosso banquete medieval. É uma ótima experiência. Só lamentamos não ter inglês suficientemente bom para aproveitar todas as poesias que eram declamadas lindamente.

At the end they represent some scenes of famous irish writers texts. We went down to the ground floor, and we were offered a warm cup of coffee or tea.
We all left very satisfied of our medieval banquet. It is a great experience. We just repent not having an English level sufficiently good to take advantage of all the poetry that was beautifully recited.
