SKYLINE - CROKE PARK
Croke Park is the fourth largest stadium in Europe, with a capacity of more than 82,000 people, and is home to Gaelic sports: Gaelic Football and Hurling - both sports are a real Irish passion. In 2004 it underwent a major renovation that cost around €260 million.
In addition to sports, the space is also used to host major events such as the U2 show last month. At the stadium you can take a tour to get see it inside out. And it is also possible to visit the top part of the stadium, known as Skyline.
If you wish, arrive a bit earlier to have a snack in the stadium's coffee shop.
In this space you wait to be called for the tour. Seeing Dublin at 44 meters high does not look too bad.
In this room the guide explains how the entire Skyline tour will go and gives safety tips. We should all put on a sort of safety belt. Honestly, it's all so safe that we have not seen much use in it.
We quickly pass the stands and see the stadium inside, which is beautiful and has an all natural lawn, considered one of the best in Europe. But we cannot be around for very long, the top is our destination.
The Skyline itself has 5 platforms, in each one you can read plaques that identify important points of the city, and in addition the guide goes telling facts and curiosities about Dublin.
And as you can imagine the view is incredible. You will be willing to take lots of pictures!
In platform 5, we enter by a bridge that is extended and suspended towards the stadium. The view is spectacular.
And so ends our stroll through the heights of Croke Park. Try to go on a sunny day so you can enjoy the tour much better. And you can also visit the complete GAA Museum, the museum dedicated to Gaelic sports
Spend a good time on it. There's a lot of interesting stuff. You'll see, for example, how the Hurling's stick is made. Some of these instruments that look so old are still used today!
There we learned that Hurling practiced by women is called Camogie.
Upstairs there is an amusing space for you to try playing Gaelic football or Hurling. Alex is already a star in both sports!
Of course, check in at the little shop too. Maybe you want to take grass seeds and have a lawn like Croke Park's.
