Ashford Castle - part 2

Ashford Castle in County Mayo is the best 5 star hotel in Ireland and was once considered the best luxury hotel in the world. Neste espaço você vai poder fazer diversos tratamentos estéticos, massagens, se exercitar no fitness center, renovar as energias na sauna ou nadar na piscina, que foi a nossa opção. A decoração é belíssima, A luz é suave e há um suave cheiro de incenso na recepção.  Alguns snacks saudáveis como nozes, castanhas, água e frutas estão à disposição. No vestiário você veste um aconchegante roupão e chinelos antes de se dirigir até a piscina. Não deixe de prestar atenção no belo mural com motivos marinhos.

In this space you will be able to do various aesthetic treatments, massages, work out in the fitness center, renew the energies in the sauna or swim in the pool, which was our option. The decor is gorgeous, the light is soft and there is a soft smell of incense at the front desk. Some healthy snacks such as walnuts, hazelnuts, water and fruit are available. In the dressing room you will dress in a comfortable robe and slippers before heading to the pool. Be sure to pay attention to the beautiful mural with marine motifs.

Tivemos sorte e pudemos aproveitar a piscina  sozinhos. E só fomos embora por que já era hora do jantar. A gente escolheu jantar no The Dungeon, que como indica o nome fica no calabouço e que tem a decoração de uma adorável taberna medieval. 

We were lucky and were able to enjoy the pool only by ourselves. And we just left because it was time for dinner. We chose to dine at The Dungeon, which as the name indicates is in the dungeon and has the decor of a lovely medieval tavern.

E de jantar pedimos frango, salada e batata. Foi a melhor frango com salada que já comemos. Estava simplesmente delicioso. 

And for dinner we ordered chicken, salad and potato. It was the best chicken with salad we have ever eaten. It was simply delicious.

E logo que acabamos tínhamos ainda mais uma atividade! Era hora de conhecer a linda sala de cinema. São 30 confortáveis poltronas e todas as noites é exibido um clássico, no dia em que fomos era a vez de Breakfast at Tiffany's. O hotel deixa garrafas de água, pipoca e doces disponíveis para os clientes. Além de rever este filme que adoro, fazia a seguinte nota mental "preciso ficar milionária e ter uma sala destas na minha casa". 

And as soon as we finished we had yet another activity! It was time to see the beautiful movie theater. There are 30 comfortable armchairs and every night a classic film is displayed, the day we went it was the turn of Breakfast at Tiffany's. The hotel leaves bottled water, popcorn and candies available to the guests. In addition to checking out again this movie I love, I made the following mental note: "I need to be a millionaire and have a room like this in my house".

Assim que o filme acabou, estávamos exaustos. Mas ainda tiramos algumas fotos noturnas do hotel do lado de fora.

As soon as the film was over, we were exhausted. But we still took some outdoor night shots from the hotel.

E chegou a hora de dormir nesta cama fabulosa com lençóis tão macios que pareciam de seda. E de manhã cedo já tínhamos atividades programadas. Toda as manhãs às 8 da manhã você pode participar de uma caminhada na floresta com cães Irish Wolfhound, enormes e amigáveis cachorros de caça e que são considerados os cachorros mais altos do mundo. Apesar do cansaço e frio levantamos da cama e fizemos a caminhada. 

And it was time to sleep in this fabulous bed with sheets so soft it looked like silk. And early in the morning we had scheduled activities. Every morning at 8am you can take a walk in the forest with Irish Wolfhound dogs, huge and friendly hunting dogs, they are considered the tallest dogs in the world. Despite the tiredness and cold we got out of bed and did the walk.

E ao voltarmos tínhamos o melhor café-da-manhã da Irlanda à nossa espera.

And on our return we had the best breakfast in Ireland waiting for us.

Basicamente qualquer coisa que você quiser, vai achar. Desde carnes, salmão, sucos verdes, granolas, pães artesanais, frutas, bolos e muito mais. E como se tudo isso ainda não fosse suficiente há ainda algumas opções a la carte. O Alex pediu Eggs Benedict e eu panquecas de batata doce.

Basically anything you want, you'll find. From meats, salmon, green juices, granolas, artisan breads, fruits, cakes and more. And as if all this still was not enough there are still some a la carte options. Alex ordered Eggs Benedict and I got sweet potato pancakes.

Se você não quiser acordar cedo para fazer a caminhada com os Irish Wolfhound pode brincar com eles no lobby principal. Eles ficam lá todos os dias por volta das 11 da manhã. Encantam adultos e crianças.

If you do not want to wake up early to do the walk with the Irish Wolfhounds you can play with them in the main lobby. They stay there every day around 11 in the morning. They charm adults and children.

Se estiver chovendo há várias atividades que você pode fazer, como ler um bom livro na biblioteca, dar uma olhada na galeria de arte, passar pela loja e ver as bonitas peças de roupas ou acessórios (a gente comprou um lindo broche com o formato de um floco de neve), curtir a sala de jogos chamada Billiards Room ou relaxar no PUB, The Prince of Wales, a decoração é refinadíssima e há uma grande variedade de coquetéis e bebidas que você pode degustar.

If it's raining there are several activities you can do, such as reading a good book in the library, taking a look at the art gallery, going through the store and seeing the beautiful pieces of clothing or accessories.We got a beautiful brooch in the format of a snowflake.

Para os fumantes o castelo reservou uma área do telhado com linda vista para o lago e um bonito toldo todo decorado. 

For smokers the castle has reserved a roof area with lovely lake views and a beautiful awning all decorated.

E não esqueça de dar uma passado no requintado pub, The Prince of Wales, a decoração é refinadíssima e há uma grande variedade de coquetéis e bebidas que você pode degustar.

And do not forget to indulge yourself in the exquisite pub, The Prince of Wales, the decor is refined and there is a wide variety of cocktails and drinks you can taste.

E sem notarmos o tempo passar, tinha chegado a hora do check-out. Tínhamos passado um incrível e inesquecível fim-de-semana. Antes de sairmos da propriedade passamos pela Mrs. Boutique and Bakery, onde você pode tomar um último chá antes de voltar para casa ou comprar alguns presentes e souvenirs.

And without noticing the time go by, check-out time had arrived. We had spent an incredible and unforgettable weekend. Before we left the property, we went to Mrs. Boutique and Bakery, where you can have a last tea before returning home or buying some gifts and souvenirs.

CONG

Bem perto do hotel fica o povoado de Cong, que ficou conhecido por ter sido set de filmagem do filme The Quiet Man (Depois do Vendaval no Brasil) com direção de John Ford e John Wayne e Maureen O'Hara como protagonistas (e que ficaram hospedados no Ashford Castle durante as filmagens). No povoado há o Museu The Quiet Man que reproduz o formato da casa do protagonista do filme e que fica aberto apenas nos meses de verão. 

Very close to the hotel is Cong Village, which was known to have been a movie set for The Quiet Man directed by John Ford and having John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara on the leading roles (who were hosted at Ashford Castle during filming). In the village there is the The Quiet Man Museum that reproduces the shape of the house of the main actor of the film and which is only open in the summer months.

O Pat Cohan Bar que é mostrado várias vezes no filme também ainda está lá, mas também só abre nos meses de verão.

The Pat Cohan Bar that is shown several times in the movie is also still there, but also only opens in the summer months.

A Abadia de Cong também foi usada no filme e são as ruínas de uma abadia Agostiniana do século 13.

The Cong Abbey was also used in the film and they are the ruins of a 13th-century Augustinian abbey.

Antes de ir embora não esqueça de fotografar a estátua mais importante da cidade com os atores John Wayne e Maureen O'Hara em homenagem ao filme The Quiet Man.
