Cliff Walk - Bray Head
If there is a walk you cannot miss on these spring days is the Cliff Walk in County Wicklow. There are 6 km that join two towns: Bray and Greystones.
We decided to start the walk in Greystones. We have already shown you Greystones beaches on this post. And although the hike is enjoyable at any time of year, in the spring you will walk among spectacular fields of yellow flowers called Rapeseed.
It is a stunning and unique setting that cannot be missed by people who live here in Ireland or by visitors. The flowers are so intense in color that they look artificial. The view of the sea and the flowers is incredible. The fields are so large that their sight is lost in the immense yellowish flowers.
A precarious path already existed since the medieval times where today is the trail. But the trail as we know it today was developed with the construction of the train track in 1840. Building a railway right on the edge of a cliff was very expensive and demanded hard work.
But this had to be done because the landlord of the area where the trail should have been built initially did not want to have its land separated by a railroad track. After the fabulous field of flowers you still have a long way to go.
In general there is no greater difficulty to make the 6 km except for some puddle of water. So wear comfortable shoes.
On the right side you will have the view of the sea and the right side of the mountains. And as we are in the spring, you will find more flowers along the way. In addition to the local birds.
Soon you will start to see the train track. And we have the idea of how complicated the construction of the railroad must have been in such an inappropriate place.
From the ruins of this house the area was no longer public and the owner of the area charged a toll for anyone who wanted to cross.
And it is now possible to see the town of Bray.
Before reaching the beach there are beautiful green spaces with beautiful sea views.BRAY
The town of Bray has a nice large promenade by the sea. Great place for a good walk. There are also green spaces for children to play, playgrounds and colorful stalls selling toys and ice creams.
You can return to the point of origin by going back along the trail on the cliffs (6 km) or catching the train (Dart). That was what we did since it was late and it was starting to get dark and we would not have time to go back down the trail on foot. At Bray train station, pay attention to the beautiful wall panels that tell a short history of the town and Ireland.
When you get on the train, just relax and enjoy the beautiful view you have on the sea!
