Cobh é uma pequena e encantadora cidade, conhecida por ser a última parada do Titanic antes do naufrágio, que fica a poucos quilômetros de Cork City.

Cobh is a small and enchanting town, known for being Titanic's last port of call before the shipwreck, which is located a few kilometres from Cork City.

Assim que você chega de trem já vai encontrar o Cobh Heritage Center: The Queenstown Story, que aborda de forma muito didática a fortíssima emigração irlandesa. Um passeio fundamental para quem quiser conhecer um pouco mais sobre a história da Ilha Esmeralda.

As soon as you arrive by train you will find the Cobh Heritage Center: The Queenstown Story, which approaches in a very didactical way the strong Irish emigration. This is a fundamental stroll for who wants to know a little more about the Emerald Island history.

Já na entrada há a reprodução do tipo de bagagem que era utilizada pelos migrantes. 
O maior porto de emigração do país foi justamente Cobh. Daqui  3 milhões de pessoas deixaram a Irlanda de 1815 a 1970.
O museu mostra como eram os coffin ships, embarcações em péssimo estado e que normalmente eram de carga, utilizadas pela população fugindo da Grande Fome, período em que uma bactéria extinguiu toda a plantação de batata, principal alimento da população. 


On the entrance there is a reproduction of the luggage used by the emigrants.
The largest emigration port in the country was precisely Cobh. From here 3 million people left Ireland from 1815 to 1970.
The museum shows how the coffin ships were, ships in dreadful condition, and which generally were cargo ships, used by the population escaping from the Great Famine, period when a bacteria extinguished all the potato plantation, main kind of food for the people.

A emigração continuou muito forte mesmo depois de passado os anos da Grande Fome. Já que as famílias eram numerosas e não havia terra para que todos trabalhassem nela. Um dos filhos normalmente ficava com o pequeno pedaço de terra da família e o resto via como saída para a pobreza a emigração.
O espaço também mostra como os ladrões e condenados por algum crime eram mandados para a Austrália, para nunca mais voltarem.

The emigration continued strong even after the Great Famine years had passed, once families were large and there was no land for everybody to work on. One of the children would usually keep the small part of land the family owned, and the remaining ones would see the emigration as a way out of the poverty.
The space also shows how thieves and people convicted for some kind of crime were sent to Australia, to never come back.

And it is also shown how the tourism ships and trips were.
