Saindo do centro de Cork, mais precisamente da Daunt´s Square na Grand Parade você tem várias opções de caminhadas a pé, são as Cork Walks, passando por importantes lugares da cidade.

Leaving Cork's city centre, more precisely from Daunt's Square on Grand Parade, you have many walking options, they are the Cork Walks, passing through important places in the city.

Hoje vamos fazer o trajeto verde, que recebe o nome de University Walk pois passa pela UCC, universidade de Cork.

Então calce seus tênis e vem com a gente andar pelas ruas de Cork!

Here at Welcome to Ireland we have already made the blue walk, South Parish, which you can check here.
Today we will make the green walk, which is named University Walk, once it goes through UCC - Cork University.
So put your tennis shoes and come walk with us around the streets of Cork!

CHRISTCHURCH

A Christchurch foi um centro religioso por 900 anos, já foi também utilizada pela prefeitura e cerimônias cívicas.

A igreja foi desconsagrada em 1978 e desde 2011 é o Triskel Art Centre, movimentado centro de eventos culturais.

Christchurch was a religious centre for 900 years, it has already been used by the City Hall and in civic ceremonies.
The church was deconsecrated in 1978 and since 2011 it hosts Triskel Art Center, a busy centre of cultural events.

CORK COURTHOUSE

Prédio de 1835 com arquitetura neo clássica que fica na Washington Street. Rua com bonitas casas e construções como a Courthouse (Tribunal).

Building from 1835 with neo-classic architecture, it is located on Washington Street. It is a street with beautiful houses and buildings such as the Courthouse.

LANCASTER QUAY

Esta região foi revitalizada a partir de século 19. Ali fica o elegante Hospital especializado em olhos, ouvido e garganta. Se você prefere a natureza, o Rio Lee oferece bonitas paisagens.

This region has been revitalized from the 19th Century onwards. There you can find the elegant Hospital specialized in eyes, ears and throat. If you prefer the nature, River Lee offers beautiful landscapes.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK (UCC)

Agora já estamos na UCC, onde dá para fazer agradáveis passeios pelos seus cuidados jardins. Há várias cafeterias agradáveis como a Fresco. Que tal uma parada para tomar um delicioso Moccha com chocolate belga?

Now we are already at UCC, where you can make pleasant walks through its well taken care gardens. There are many nice coffee shops like Fresco. What about a stop to have a delicious Mocha with Belgian chocolate? 

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK (Campus)

Este é o coração do campus da UCC. Vale a pena simplesmente andar por esta  linda universidade cheia de espaços verdes e bem cuidados. Já fizemos um post sobre a UCC aqui.

This is the heart of the UCC Campus. Simply by walking through this beautiful university full of green and well taken care space is already worth the visit. We have already made a post on UCC here.

CORK COUNTY GAOL

Este antiga prisão ficava colada à entrada principal da universidade o que causava protestos dos estudantes pois eram obrigados a presenciar execuções públicas!!! Hoje em dia a prisão está desativada e fechada. A gente já falou sobre outra prisão aberta a visitação pública, clique aqui e conheça em detalhes.

This old prison was right next to the main university entrance, which caused protests from students, because they were forced to watch public executions! Today the prison is no longer working and it is closed. We have written about another prison that is opened for public visitation, click here and learn in more details.

FITZGERALD'S PARK

Este é o principal parque de Cork. Ali também está o Cork Public Museum. A gente já falou de ambos aqui no blog. Para conhecê-los clique aqui e aqui.

MARDYKE WALK

Se você quiser fazer uma aprazível caminhada em Cork este é o lugar certo. Margeada pelo Rio Lee e muita natureza, este passeio é um dos mais agradáveis da cidade.

If you want to go for a pleasant walk in Cork this is the right place. On River Lee's margins surrounded by a lot of nature, this walk in one of the most pleasant in the city.

BANKS of The LEE WALKAY

Passar por aqui nos faz lembrar sobre o nome de Cork, (Corcaigh em gaélico) que quer dizer terreno pantanoso. Nesta região havia florestas semi úmidas de salgueiros e amieiros.

Walking through here makes us remember about the name of Cork (Corcaigh in Irish/Gaelic) which means marsh. In this region there were semi-humid forests of willows and alders.

GRATTAN STREET

E vamos terminando nosso passeio de hoje. Esta região, assim como várias outras de Cork, foi construída sobre pântanos. Há bonitas casas em estilo holandês. Popular no século 18. 

Há um pequeno espaço verde com lápides que são da St Peter´s Church cuja primeira estrutura construída em 1199!


And let finish today's walk. This region, as many others in Cork, was built over marsh land. There are beautiful houses in Dutch style, popular on the 18th Century. There is a small green space with tombs on it, which belong to St. Peter's Church, which first structure built was in 1199!
