O Maior Parque da Europa / The Biggest Park of Europe
With the Spring and Summer arrival, one of the most indispensable programs of any European is enjoying the green areas and parks. It is very nice nice to see how people take advantage of every sunshine. Sometimes during lunchtime people go to the park to get a little sunbath, read a book, have a snack, listen to music.
And to do so, there is no better place than the huge Phoenix Park in Dublin, which is the largest public park in Europe, with 707 hectares.Hyde Park em Londres - 141 hectares
Villa Doria Pamphilli (maior parque de Roma) - 180 hectares
Parque El Retiro (Madrid) - 118 hectares
In order for you to have an idea of how big it is, let's compare the size with other famous parks:Hyde Park in London - 141 hectares
Villa Doria Pamphili (largest park in Rome) - 180 hectares
El Retiro Park (Madrid) - 118 hectares
Central Park em Nova York - 341 hectares
Parque Ibirapuera em São Paulo - 221 hectares
And two parks outside Europe:Central Park in New York - 341 hectares
Ibirapuera Park in Sao Paulo - 221 hectares
Evidentemente não é um parque para você conhecer em apenas uma visita. Há muito para ser visto e conhecido. Inclusive existe até uma área exclusiva destinada a cervos!
Were you able to notice how large the Phoenix Park is with its 707 hectares?Obviously it is not a park for you to see each corner in only one visit. There is a lot to be seen and noticed. There is even an exclusive area only dedicated to deers!
Another very interesting thing is that its main gates (Parkgate Street and Castleknock Street) are opened 24 hours a day, all year long!! Very few public parks of this size are opened all day.
The neighborhood are also very pleasant:
And once we are talking about superlatives, inside the park is also located the largest Obelisk in Europe, with 62 metres high. It is a monument raised to honor the Duke of Wellington's victories. He was a famous British statesman and general (born in Ireland), who defeated Napoleon at the Waterloo battle in Belgium.
Phoenix was also the stage of several social and even religious manifestations. In 1979 it gathered almost 1 million people with the visit of Pope John Paul II. Its large lawns are used to practice the most diverse sports. But what most of the people really do is to walk and enjoy this beautiful green space.
This building is very useful to get protected from the sudden Irish rains.
Parents can take their children to the playground area.
There are several attractions on this huge green space such as the President's Residence and the Zoo, which we will be showing little by little here at Welcome to Ireland.
