Mas isso vem mudando nos últimos anos. Os irlandeses são cada vez menos católicos e a imagem da Igreja ficou terrivelmente danificada depois de diversos escândalos sexuais envolvendo padres.
Ireland has always been a country considered conservative and very catholic. Proof of this is that they struggled very hard to be able to keep following their religion.But this reality has been changing in the last few years. The Irish are becoming less catholic, and the image of the church was terribly damaged after so many sexual scandals involving priests.
A partir de 2010 o país reconhece a união civil entre homossexuais, que contam com amparo legal em questões de herança, propriedades imobiliárias, pensões, etc.
Being homosexual in Ireland was prohibited until 1993.From 2010 on, the country recognized the civil union between homosexuals, which has the legal support in matters like heritage, real estate properties, pensions, etc.
Segundo uma pesquisa publicada pelo Irish Times (principal jornal do país) 71% dos eleitores pensa votar a favor de legalizar o casamento no referendo.
In May of this current year the population will vote about the approval for the marriage between people of the same sex.According to a research publish by the Irish Times (main newspaper in the country), 71% of voters consider voting in favor of legalizing the marriage in the referendum.
And being just a few months for the date, the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, decided to come out about his homosexuality for the big public, in an interview to the Irish television. It is the first time ever that a Minister makes a declaration of this sort.![]() |

We don't feel any homophobic environment on the streets in Ireland. The people, for what we have seen until now, respect a lot any sexual orientation.
One of the young and talented actors on the awarded British series Sherlock, Andrew Scott (which plays the villain Moriarty) is Irish, and speak openly about his homosexuality in interviews. "Fortunately today people don't see being gay with a character failure", declared Scott. ![]() |
