Blog Bilíngue / Bilingual Blog
This week the cold weather came with total strength to Ireland!! It snowed all around the country, and we showed some of the pictures of snow in our fan page. Click here. Apart of this, we have also placed there the link to the video with the story Brazilian network Rede Globo made about Ireland.O National Museum of Ireland é uma das atrações mas visitadas do país.. Ele é dividido em: Archaelogy, Country Life (este é o único que fica fora de Dublin, no condado de Mayo), Natural History e Decorative Arts and History. A gente vai abordar neste post sobre este último localizado em Dublin 7.
And with this so cold and rainy weather, visting museums is an excellent program, once they are indoors and heated places where the weather conditions don´t matter so much. The National Museum of Ireland is one of the most visited attractions in the country. It is divided between: Archaeology, Country Life (this is the only one outside of Dublin, at the county of Mayo), Natural History and Decorative Arts and History. We will approach on this post about the former, located on Dublin 7.
Então ao chegar já preste atenção nestes bonitos e imponentes prédios.
This museum is located where in the past were the army headquarters, the Collins Barracks. So upon arriving pay attention on these beautiful and imposing buildings.
Agora vamos dar uma olhada no setor militar chamado Soldier and Chiefs que abrange boa parte da história militar irlandesa de 1550 até o século 21. Só nestes corredores dá para passar uma tarde!!
Inside the museum you will spend great hours immersed on Irish History. If you live in Dublin, go several times! There are so many things to see and read! And the entrance is totally free of charge. But leave some Euro on the way out. The museum really needs these donations!!! Now let's have a look at the military area called Soldier and Chiefs which covers good part of the Irish military history from 1550 until the 21st century. Only on these corridors you could easily spend a whole afternoon!!
This is an Irish Musketeer from 1598 with gun and clothing from the period.A sua arma era esta lança de 3,5 metros de comprimento extremamente pesada e de difícil manipulação.
This is the Pikeman from 1648.His weapon was this 3.5 m spear, extremely heavy and with difficult handling.
This is the Jacobite Granadier (1691). He was ready to light a grenade he used to carry in a small leather bag. I wonder how many of these grenades exploded by accident.
Here you can almost become a soldier. Many guns can be handled by visitors. With some of the indications given, you will be ready to use these guns... hehehe
This model shows the damage a bullet would do on the human body.
Ireland at the First World War
The Easter Rising from 1916 was a movement for the Irish freedom, which was severely reprehended by the British Army with the assassination of its main leaders. It was fundamental for the country's independence which would happen in 1922.
There is also a space for the great Irish leader, Michael Collins, responsible for the Irish independence.
On the 21st century, the Irish Defense Forces is dedicated to peace actions such as detecting bombs in mined grounds.
There are many objects from the period, such as planes, tanks and even a anti-bombing shelter.
This shelter could hold up to 6 people!
This post is just a start, you will find a lot more there! In other posts we will show you the other galleries on the museum. To check working hours, address, etc, this is the site.
