Voltamos!!!!  
Depois de umas semanas sem publicações estamos de volta à Irlanda. Como avisamos no último post, passamos as festas de fim-de-ano no Brasil. Pudemos rever os familiares queridos, fizemos consultas e exames médicos e passamos muito calor!
Mas agora retomaremos as atividades aqui no blog. Te convidamos a nos acompanhar no Welcome to Ireland durante todo este ano de 2015!

We are back!!!
After a few weeks with no posts we are back to Ireland. As we advised on our previous post, we spent the end of year holidays in Brazil. We were able to see our dear family members, we had medical appointments and tests, and we faced a lot of hot weather!
But now we are back to our activities here on the blog. We would like to invite you to follow us at Welcome to Ireland during all this year of 2015!

E hoje te levamos até Crosshaven, uma pequena village portuária que fica pertinho de Cork City (23 Km e a 250 Km de Dublin).

And today we take you to Crosshaven, a little harbour village which is close to Cork City (23 Km and 250 Km from Dublin).

É possível ir de carro ou de ônibus, que foi a nossa opção. Em alguns minutos você já começa a ver os barcos.

It is possible to go by car or by bus, which was our option. In a few minutes, you will already start seeing the boats.  

O ônibus pára bem no centro, que é pequeno e acolhedor. E assim como quase todas as pequenas cidades da Irlanda, cheia de história. Remotamente foi assentamento de Vikings. Era um bom lugar para chegar pelo mar. 
A escola secundária foi fundada pela tia do escritor James Joyce que aliás cita Crosshaven duas vezes em sua magistral obra-prima Ulysses.

The bus stops right in the village center, which is small and cosy. And such as almost all the small towns in Ireland, it is full of history. It was remotely a viking settlement. It was a good place to reach the sea.

The secondary school was founded the the aunt of the writer James Joyce who mentions Crosshaven twice in his fantastic master piece Ulysses.

A principal atração da cidade é o Forte Camden Meagher que fica há alguns minutos a pé do centro.

The main attraction in town is the  Forte Camden Meagher which is a few minutes on foot from the city centre.

O Forte foi construído para proteger o Porto de Cork e apesar de ter sido construído originalmente no século 16 o que vemos hoje é de 1860.  Uma característica muito interessante do Camden Fort Meagher é que mais de  65% de sua estrutura é subterrânea. Foi operado pelas forças britânicas até 1938 e entregue para as Forças de Defesa Irlandesas a partir de então. Em 1989 passou a ser de responsabilidade do Condado de Cork e ficou totalmente abandonado até 2010, ano que em um grupo de voluntários resolveu restaurar completamente o Forte. E esse trabalho ainda continua! Mas já há muita coisa para ver. Há vários guias voluntários dispostos a te dar inúmeras informações sobre o Forte e a região.

The Fort was built to protect the Port of Cork and despite being built originally on the 16th century, what we see today is from 1860. A very interesting feature from Camden Fort Meagher is that more than 65% of its structure is underground. It was managed by the British Armed Forces until 1938, and handed over to the Irish Defense Forces from that date on. In 1989 it became the responsibility of Cork County and was totally abandoned until 2010, year that a group of volunteers decided to completely restore the Fort! But there are a lot of things to see. There are many volunteer guides available to give you countless information about the Fort and the region. 

Ao entrar você pode visitar várias salas com detalhadas informações sobre os períodos de guerra e objetos de época.

Once you enter, you can visit many rooms with detailed information about the periods of war and see objects from those periods.

O que chama mais a atenção dos visitantes são as instalações subterrâneas, como estes enormes corredores e esta incrível escada caracol.

What gets more attention from the visitors are the underground facilities, such as these huge corridors and this amazing spiral staircase.

A Cafeteria tem um deck com uma linda vista para o porto de Cork. Uma parada para um lanche aqui é indispensável.

The coffee shop has a deck with a beautiful visit to Cork's harbor. One stop here for a snack is mandatory.

Pessoas com a mobilidade limitada vão encontrar certa dificuldade em passear pelas instalações.

People with limited mobility will face some difficulties in going around the facilities.

De volta ao centro ainda dê uma caminhada pelo Royal Cork Yacht Club, fundado em 1720 e o mais antigo do mundo.

Back to the city center, take a walk to the Royal Cork Yacht Club, founded in 1720 and the oldest in the World.

Crosshaven é um agradável passeio de fim de semana, para os que moramos aqui no sul ou para os que já conhecem as atrações turísticas mais tradicionais  da região como Blarney Castle (clique aqui) e o Fota (clique aqui)
