Almoço na Irlanda - Lunch in Ireland

O almoço típico irlandês é bastante diferente ao que estávamos acostumados, que normalmente tem grãos, carnes, massas, saladas e coisas do tipo. Assim que chegamos à Irlanda víamos os cartazes dos restaurantes que diziam "lunch menu" e achávamos que teríamos uma variada gama de opções para almoçar. Mas para a nossa surpresa o lunch menu se resumia a algumas opções do sopas e sanduíches.

The typical Irish lunch is very different for the one we were used to have, which usually has grains, meat, pasta, salads and thing like this. When we arrived in Ireland we would see restaurante posters written "lunch menu", and we thought they would have a wide option to have lunch. But for our surprise, the lunch menu was in short some options of soups and sandwiches.

A sopa pode vir sozinha com o soda bread (típico pão irlandês, clique aqui conhecer mais sobre este tipo de pão) e nunca podem faltar pequenos quadradinhos de manteiga, o jeito local de comê-lo é passar a manteiga (que geralmente está derretida) pelo pão e molhar na sopa. Outro hábito que adquiri aqui! Não molhava pão com manteiga na sopa antigamente.

The soup can come as main dish with soda bread (typical Irish bread, click here to learn more about about this kind of bread), and you will always have the little butter squares, they way to have it is spreading the butter (usually melted) on the slice of bred and dipping it in the soup. This is another habit I acquired here! I previously never dipped bread with butter in the soup.

A outra opção de acompanhar a sopa é pedi-la com um sanduíche, que pode ser inteiro ou meio e vêm tostados.


Another option to follow the soup is ordering with a sandwich, which can be full or half and they come toasted.

Até temos uma anedota com relação a isso. O Alex gosta de levar ao trabalho um sanduíche para comer no café-da-manhã e um colega irlandês acha isso muito estranho pois no conceito dele o Alex está almoçando duas vezes! Primeiro comendo o sanduíche e depois com o almoço tradicional.

A variedade das sopas são bastante diversas: tomate, cogumelos, cenoura, etc. As mais comuns são a de vegetais e claro, estamos na Irlanda, a de batatas. Que é bastante fácil fazer e econômica.Veja neste vídeo como fazer uma típica sopa irlandesa de batata:


We even have a little joke about it. Alex likes to take a sandwich to work to eat for breakfast, and an Irish colleague thinks this is very strange, because in his concept Alex in having lunch twice! First having the sandwich, and later having the regular lunch.
The variety of soups is very wide: tomato, mushrooms, carrot, etc. The most common ones are vegetable and of course, we are in Ireland, potato - which is very easy to make and very economic. Check on this video how to make a typical Irish potato soup:
