Good Friday in Ireland

Hoje é quinta-feira, véspera da Sexta-feira Santa e sabe onde você vai encontrar muitos irlandeses?
No supermercado! Comprando muitos litros de bebida alcoólica.
Veja este pequeno  vídeo. Muita gente compra bebida como se ela fosse acabar da face da terra.


Today is Thursday, Good Friday eve, and do you know where you are going to find many Irish people?
In the supermarket! Buying many bottles of alcoholic drinks.
Have a look at this short video. Many people buy drinks like if they were being vanished from Earth. 

Tudo isso começou em 1924 quando o Governo irlandês decidiu que em 3 datas específicas não poderiam ser vendidas ou se expor ao público qualquer bebida "intoxicante". Essas datas eram na Sexta-feira Santa, St Patrick's Day e no Natal. A proibição no Dia de St. Patricks acabou sendo extinta. 
Mas nas outras duas, o banimento continua até os dias de hoje. Todos os PUBS do país fecham suas portas nesses dias.
É por isso que os irlandeses correm aos supermercados para se abastecer.

All of this started in 1924 when the Irish Government decided that on 3 specific dates no "toxic"drinks could be sold or exposed to the public. These dates were the Good Friday, St Patrick's Day and on Christmas. The prohibition on St. Patricks was released later. 
But on the other two, the ban continues up to the current days. All the Pubs in the country close their doors on these days.

That's why the Irish run to the supermarkets to get supply.

Então só se pode beber em casa nesses dias?
Bem, não é bem assim, e os locais acabam dando um jeito.
Alguns restaurantes de hotéis podem vender álcool desde que você esteja hospedado nele e que peça uma refeição.
Outras opções são viajar de avião, trem ou ferry  desde que tenha comprado os bilhetes.
Fazer uma refeição em algum navio/restaurante que fica atracado no Grand Canal também vale.

So you can only drink at home these days?
Well, this is not totally right, locals end up managing a way out.
Some hotel restaurants can sell alcohol if you are staying there, and orders along a meal. 
Other options are travelling by plane, train or ferry - as long as you have purchased the tickets.

Having a meal in some ship restaurant docked on the Grand Canal is also OK.
