Neste mês de maio se realiza um grande Festival de música chamado Eurovision Song Contest, mas conhecido apenas como Eurovision.

This May will take place a great music festival called Eurovision Song Contest, better known just as Eurovision.

Este é o festival de música com mais audiência no planeta (cerca de 200 milhões de espectadores) e é o programa de TV mais antigo que ainda é retransmitido. Inclusive é exibido em países que não participam do Festival que historicamente promove a música POP mas que também abre espaço a outros estilos musicais.
Tudo começou em 1956, a ideia surgiu para tentar unificar a Europa ainda fragmentada depois da II Guerra Mundial. E o sucesso só foi aumentando desde então.

This is the music festival with the higher audience in the planet (around 200 million viewers), and it is the oldest TV program that is still being transmitted. It is even shown in countries not participating on the festival, which historically promotes  POP music, but also opens space for other musical styles.
Everything started in 1956, the idea originated to try to unify the still broken up Europe after World War II. And the success has only gone up since then.

Grupos como ABBA foram lançados ao estrelato depois de se apresentarem no festival. Apesar do prefixo "euro"o evento não é exclusivo dos países europeus. Basta que o país seja participante da União Européia de Radiodifusão.

Groups like ABBA became stars after performing on the festival. Even though it bring s the prefix "euro", the event is not exclusive of European countries. It is sufficient the country participates on the Radio Broadcasting  European Union.  

O Eurovision funciona da seguinte maneira: cada país apresenta uma música inédita e o público vota naquela que mais gosta. E o pais que mais teve vitórias até agora neste importantíssimo Festival foi Irlanda! Até agora com sete vitórias!
A primeira foi em 1970, com a cantora Dana e a música "All Kinds of Everything".

Eurovision works the following way: each country presents an unpublished song, and the audience votes on the one they like the most. And the country who had more victories up to now on this extremely important festival is Ireland! Seven victories up to now! The first one was in 1970, with the singer Dana and the song "All Kinds of Everything".

Seven years later Johnny Logan managed to win Eurovision again, it was the first time someone did it, and until today no one was able to do it again. Now with the song "Hold Me Now". This is the song:

A década de noventa foram os anos de ouro da Irlanda no Eurovision.
Venceu em 1992 com a música "Why Me?" de Linda Martin (mas quem compôs a canção foi o já bi campeão Johnny Logan).

The 90s were golden years for Ireland on Eurovision.
Ireland won in 1992 with the song "Why Me?" sang by Linda Martin (but who wrote the song was the bi-champion Johnny Logan).

Em 1993 quem ganhou foi a Niamh Kavanagh com  "In Your Eyes".
In 1993 Niamh Kavanagh won with "In Your Eyes".

Em 1994 a dupla Paul Harrington e Charlie Mc Gettigan venceu  o Eurovison com "Rock'n' Roll Kids".

Em 1996 foi a vez da voz celestial de Eimear Quinn seduzir a todos com "The Voice".

O Eurovision sempre é realizado em países diferentes. Este ano será em Viena, Áustria. E a grande final será no dia 23 de maio às 21:00.
A Irlanda será representada por Molly Sterling, já uma talentosa cantora com apenas 17 anos mas com uma incrível voz madura. 

Eurovision always takes place in different countries. This year it will be hosted in Vienna, Austria. And the great final will be on May 23rd, at 9PM.
Ireland will be represented by Molly Sterling, an already talented singer who is only 17 years old, but with an amazing mature voice.
