Halloween in Ireland

 O Halloween é uma festa de origem celta (povo que viveu há mais de 2 mil anos na Irlanda e outros poucos países como França e Reino Unido).
Naquela época se celebrava o Samhain que quer dizer em gaélico fim do verão e a partir do dia 1 de novembro começava o ano novo celta.
Também eram realizados muitos rituais e se preparavam para o longo inverno.
Como se acreditava que nesse dia os mortos poderiam assustar os vivos muitos objetos assustadores eram colocados na frente das casas para afugentar esses espíritos.
O Halloween foi levado para os EUA pelos imigrantes irlandeses e de lá se popularizou para diversos países.
No post de hoje te mostramos um pouco do Halloween aqui na Irlanda.

Halloween is a celebration of Celtic origin (people who lived more than 2 thousand years ago in Ireland and other few countries like France and UK).
In those days it was celebrated the Samhain which means in Gaelic the end of summer, and from November 1st the Celtic new year started.
They also made many rituals and got prepared for the long winter.
Once they believed on this day the dead could scare the living, many scary objects were placed in front of houses to drive away these spirits.
Halloween was taken to the USA by the Irish immigrants, and from there it became popular in several countries.

On today's post we show you a little of the Halloween here in Ireland.

A decoração com caveiras, bruxas, morcegos, etc está por todos os lados. No comércio e nas casas.

The decor with skulls, witches, bats, etc is all over the place. In the stores and houses.

A gente esculpiu algumas abóboras aqui em casa.
We have carved a few pumpkins at home.

Há algumas comidas que são típicas de Halloween, como o Colcanonn e o Barmbrack. 
Mas claro que o comércio adapta todo tipo de comidas e doces para a festa - como estes donuts e este Frappuccino da Starbucks.

There are some kinds of typical food for Halloween, like the Colcanonn and the Barmbrack. 
But of course there are adaptations on all kinds of food and sweets for the festival - like these donuts and this Starbucks Frappuccino.

Muitas empresas preparam pequenas festas para receber os filhos dos funcionários.

Many companies prepare small parties to receive the children of employees.

Há muitos eventos espalhados pela cidade como o Bram Stoker Spooktakular no Marino Crescent, conhecido como o lugar de nascimento de Bram Stoker, escritor do clássico Drácula que teve  até a participação do próprio Drácula no seu caixão assustando as crianças.
Face Painting, exibiçao de filmes antigos e até alguns sustos como um "espírito" que saia dos arbustos divertiam adultos e crianças.

There are several events spread around the city, like the Bram Stoke Spooktakular at the Marino Crescent, known as the birthplace of Bram Stoker, write of the classic Dracula - which had the participation of Dracula himself on his coffin frightening the children.

Face Painting, exhibition of old films and even somes scares with a "spirit" who would appear from the bushes, entertained adults and children.

No parque St Patrick ocorreu o Stokerland, um parque de diversões mas com atrações da era vitoriana. Uma maneira muito divertida de fazer os pequenos voltarem no tempo.

At St. Patrick's park took place the Stokerland, a fun park but with attraction from the Victorian age. A very happy way to make children go back in time.

Haunted Express foi um passeio de quase duas horas num antigo trem a vapor. A decoração estava por todos os vagões. Mas o maior atrativo era estar nesse encantador trem de décadas passadas perfeitamente bem conservado, um passeio nostálgico a outros tempos apreciando as bonitas paisagens de outono da Irlanda.

Haunted Express was a ride of almost two hours in an old steam train. the decor was in all the wagons (carriages). But the biggest attraction was being on this very well maintained and enchanting train of previous decades, a nostalgic trip to other times, enjoying the lovely autumn landscape in Ireland.

The Cauldron of Smithfield foi mais uma uma atrações que havia pela cidade para as famílias levarem os seus pequenos.

The Cauldron of Smithfield was another attraction that was available in the city for the families to take their children.

A balada de Halloween é na verdade como uma balada de qualquer outro dia mas você se diverte vendo as fantasias dos outros. A gente foi com um casal de amigos ao The Church, onde havia música ao vivo e DJ no porão. 
Fomos caracterizados de zombies!

The Halloween night out in a club is really like just another night out, but you have fun looking at the disguises of other people. We went to The Church with a couple friend of ours, where there was live music and also DJ on the basement.
We were there dressed up as zombies!

A decoração, claro, era toda temática mas o que assustava mesmo era esta garota caracterizada como a personagem Samara do filme O Chamado (The Ring).

The decor, of course, was all thematic, but what scared the most was a girl disguised as the character Samara from the film called The Ring.

Behind de Dark foi um espetáculo muito diferente que ocorreu no meio de um parque totalmente às escuras, onde a luz é colocada apenas nos artistas que fazem contorcionismos e movimentos com muita plasticidade. Até chegar ao local das apresentações você tem que andar pelo parque, sentindo os barulhos da noite. Apenas algumas lanternas estavam ligadas, não dava para ver muita coisa.
Não é um espetáculo de terror mas o clima de mistério estava sempre no frio ar de outono.

Behind the Dark was a very different show that took place in the middle of a totally dark park, where the light is placed only on the artists that do contortions and movements with a lot of plasticity. Until you arrive at the place where presentations were made, you had to walk in the park, listening to the noises of the night . Only a few torches were lit, you could't see much. this is not a horror show, the the environment of mystery was always there on the cold autumn air.

O Desfile da Halloween ocorre todo ano nas ruas centrais de Dublin com bonecos, música e performances  (algumas usando inclusive usando fogo) que vão ocorrendo a medida que o desfile caminha. O tema deste ano foi Sleep No More, e figuras da noite fizeram parte da apresentação.
No ano que vem estaremos lá de novo.

The Halloween Parade happens every year on the main central streets of Dublin, with puppets, music and performances (some were even using fire) which go on as the parade moves forward, the theme of this year was Sleep no More, and characters from the night were part of the presentation.
Next year we will be there again.

Para terminar as festividades de Halloween, houveram shows pirotécnicos em alguns pontos da cidade. 
E aqui um parenteses, as pessoas não podem por lei usar fogos de artifícios. Seu uso só é liberado para grandes eventos e sob rigorosa inspeção. Tanto é que não há fogos para a venda aqui na República da Irlanda.  Porém muita gente cruza a fronteira e compra os fogos na Irlanda do Norte. Então durante o dia era possível ver pequenos shows de fogos de artificio pela cidade realizados pelos cidadãos mas todos ilegais. 
A gente foi num dos shows legalizados e organizados pela prefeitura, para termos certeza de que as condições de segurança estariam asseguradas.
Chegamos a um afastado parque de Dublin, as pessoas estavam fantasiadas e na quase escuridão. Nada mais do que as pessoas havia ali.

To close the Halloween festivities, there were fireworks in some parts of the city.
And one parenthesis here, people can't legally use fireworks. The use is only released for big events and under rigorous inspection - so you can't buy them here on the Republic of Ireland. But many people cross the border and buy the fireworks on Northern Ireland. So during the day it was possible to see small firework shows around the city, made by local citizens - but all illegal.
we went to one of the fireworks that was legalized and organized by the City Hall, so we could be sure all the safety instructions were being followed.
We went to a distant park in Dublin, people were dressed up and on the total darkness. Nothing more than the people were there.

Os fogos foram muitos bonitos e duraram muitos minutos. Acabava de começar a Ano Novo Celta!

The fireworks were very pretty and lasted several minutes. The Celtic Year had just started!

Apesar de Halloween ser uma festa de muita alegria e que inclui todo tipo de festividades como as que mostramos neste post, há uma tradição irlandesa nesta época bastante assustadora - os "bonfire". 
Muita gente faz enormes fogueiras em lugares públicos. São feitas sem nenhum tipo de cuidado, as pessoas chegam muito perto e os acidentes e queimados são muito comuns. Muitas delas são feitas bem perto da rua, onde está o trânsito dos carros.
O corpo de bombeiros teve que ser chamado a dezenas de lugares e vimos vários caminhões andando pela cidade.
Esta é uma das fogueiras que vimos........a resolução está ruim mas veja o tamanho das chamas!
Uma tradição extremamente perigosa!

Despite Halloween being a festival of much happiness and including all kind of festivities as the one we showed on this post, there is an Irish tradition on this time of the year which is very scary - the bonfire.
Many people make huge fires in public places. They are made without any safety, people get very close and the accidents and people with burns are very common. Some of them are made very close to the street, where there is car traffic.
The firefighters had to be called dozens of places and we saw many of their trucks driving around the city.
This is one of the fires we saw... the resolution is not good but have a look at the size of these flames! 
It is an extremely dangerous tradition!
