Connemara National Park

Hoje o nosso passeio é por um dos parques nacionais da Irlanda, mais especificamente o Connemara National Park que fica no condado de Galway bem a oeste do país.

Today our trip is to one of the Irish National Parks, more specifically the Connemara National Park which is on county Galway on the far west of the country.

De carro a partir de Dublin levará mais ou menos 3 horas e a paisagem que vai encontrar pelo caminha já é linda.

It will take around 3 hours by car from Dublin, and the landscape you will find on the way is already pretty.

Antigamente o parque fazia parte da Abadia de kylemore (post mostrando este incrível lugar, em breve) e de uma escola industrial da cidade Letterfrack onde fica o parque.

O parque nacional está aberto ao público desde 1980 e chegando lá vai encontrar um centro de visitantes (que fecha de novembro até março), um Tea Room, um vídeo multi lingue,  Playground, área de picnics e o que é mais de interessante de tudo as diversas trilhas que estão divididas em 4 cores.

Some time ago, the park was part of the Kylemore Abbey (post showing this amazing place coming soon) and of an industrial school on the town of Letterfrack where the park is located.
The National Park has been opened to the public since 1980 and getting there you will find a visitor center (which closes from November until March), a Tea Room, a multilingual video, Playground, picnic area, and what is the most interesting, the several trails which are divided in 4 colors.

A trilha verde é a que se difere das outras 3 e já vamos falar sobre ela.

A amarela, azul e vermelha (que estão na Diamond Hill) são na verdade a mesma trilha mas que só diferem na intensidade. A vermelha é a que leva até o topo da montanha.

The green trail is the one different from the others and we will talk about it soon.
The yellow, blue and red (which are on Diamond Hill) are actually the same trail, they just differ on the intensity. The red trail is the one taking you to the top of the mountain. 

Você poderá fazer todas as trilhas mesmo que não esteja acostumado a fazer este tipo de caminhada. Se a gente conseguiu, acredite, você também vai conseguir!

Para ajudar um pouco, principalmente nas subidas, a gente comprou bastões de caminhada, que podem ser comprados em qualquer loja de artigos esportivos. Mas eles não são essenciais.  

O que é essencial, claro,  é levar calçados apropriados para esse tipo de atividade e roupas que aguentem bem o vento que com certeza irá encontrar na parte de cima da montanha.

You will be able to do all the trails even if you are not used to this type of walk. If we did it, believe us, yiu will also do it!
To help a little, mainly on the way up, we got trekking polls, which can be purchased in any sports or camping stores. But they are not essential.
What is essential, of course, is taking suitable shoes for this kind of activity, and clothing that take well the wind which for sure you will find on the top of the mountain.

A trilha amarela leva em média 30 minutos para ser completada, a azul 60 minutos e a vermelha (que foi a que a gente fez) 2 horas e meia. Isso pode variar de acordo com a intensidade de sua caminhada. A gente fez tudo de forna tranquila e sem pressa. Parando para tirar fotos, selfies e tomar água. Além do mais a vista é tão fantástica que vale a pena parar um pouco de vez em quando para apreciar a paisagem.

Não é necessário esperar os meses de verão para fazer este passeio. A gente foi num gelado fim-de-semana de outono e foi ótimo. Com as cores típicas desta época do ano. Mas fique de olho nas probabilidades de chuva para os dias que você estivar pensando ir. Se há chances de muita chuva é melhor deixar para outro dia. Mas recomendo que leve uma capa de chuva na mochila, a instabilidade do tempo irlandês é impressionante.

The yellow trail takes around 30 minutes to be finished, the blue one, 60 minutes, and the red one (which is the one we did), 2.5 hours. This can vary according to the intensity of your walk. We did it all in a very easy way and with no hurry. We paused many times for taking pictures, selfies, and to drink water. Besides, the view is so amazing that it is worth stopping for a while evey now and then to enjoy the views.
It is not necessary to wait the summer months to do this trip. We went there in a cold autumn weekend and it was great. With the typical colors of this time of the year. But keep an eye on the weather forecast and possibility of rain for the days you are considering going. If there is a chance of heavy rain you better leave for another day. But I recommend you take a rain cover in the backpack, the instability of the Irish weather is impressive.

As trilhas estão em ótimo estado e muito bem conservadas. Em regiões mais pantanosas há inclusive uma espécie de deck. 

Algumas pessoas levam até os seus cachorros para fazer a escalada.

The trails are in great condition, and very well preserved. In more swampy areas there is even a kind of deck. 
Some people even take their dogs with them to do the uphill hike.

A trilha verde (Ellis Wood Nature Trail) é totalmente diferente às outras 3 pois é uma caminhada na mata. É a mais curta (leva uns 20 minutos) mas não se engane vai ter que subir algumas boas escadas para completa-la. É uma pequena área de árvores absolutamente encantadora com linda vegetação e até uma cachoeira.

The green trail (Ellis Wood Nature Trail) is totally different from the other 3, because it is a walk on the woodland. It is the shortest (it takes around 20 minutes) but don't fool yourself because you will have to go up on some steep staircases to finish it. It is a very charming small area of trees, with lovely vegetation and even a waterfall.

Esta trilha é conhecida também com a Poetry Trail e inclusive o presidente da Irlanda (que é poeta) Michael D. Higgins fez um poema para este lindo lugar quando ocorreu a inauguração em 2014.

This trail is known also as the Poetry Trail and even the Irish President  Michael D. Higgins (a poet himself) made a poem for this lovely place when it was opened in 2014.

A entrada ao parque é gratuita e se você quiser apreciar um pouco das belezas naturais de Irlanda, o Connemara National Park é uma excelente opção.
