All About Irish Counties
Irelandopedia is a very interesting book full of illustrations and with many curiosities about the 32 Irish counties: the 26 of the Republic of Ireland and the 6 of Northern Ireland.
It is that kind of work that you can read and read again several times and you will always learn something new, it is full of short texts that tell a little about the cultural diversity, past, personalities, gastronomy, etc. of this country that is small but full of attractions and rich history.
Irelandopedia starts by going through the 10 great Irish wonders.
Then there is some information about Dublin and later it continues with the counties in alphabetical order.
The first is County Antrim in Northern Ireland, where the capital Belfast is located. In Antrim there is also one of Northern Ireland's main attractions, the Giant's Causeway.
Armagh (Northern Ireland) - The capital of the same county name has two churches called St. Patrick!
Carlow - (Republic of Ireland) - The famous physicist John Tyndall was born in Carlow. Tyndall was the first person who could explain why the sky is blue!
Cavan - (Republic of Ireland) - This is known as the Lake County as there are over 360! The biggest one is the Lough Sheelin.
Clare - (Republic of Ireland) In this county is Ireland's main natural tourist attraction, the Cliffs of Moher. Click here to read more about the Cliffs. The famous Irish series Father Ted was filmed in a house in Clare, which is open to public visitation. We had the opportunity to visit it and it was great fun since we watched all the episodes of the series and we have the DVD's with all of them.
Cork (Republic of Ireland) - Our dear Cork !! It's where we lived for two and a half years. It is the largest county in Ireland and has so many things to visit and learn! Derry (Northern Ireland) - Also known as Londonderry. Milk of Magnesia was invented in Derry in 1817 by Sir James Murray.
Donegal (Republic of Ireland) - We recently visited some great attractions in Donegal such as the Slieve League cliffs, Glenveagh National Park and Malin Head, the northern most point of Ireland. Click here to check it out.
Down (Northern Ireland) - most of the territory of Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, is in Antrim but parts of the east and south are in County Down. Limerick (Republic of Ireland) - the current president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins was born in Limerick. Longford (Republic of Ireland) - it is a basically a rural county. One of Ireland's tallest trees is in Longford with nearly 40 meters high. The Dublin Royal Canal can be navigated up to Longford!

Mayo -(Republic of Ireland) - in this county lies the sanctuary of Knock, Ireland's largest religious pilgrimage center. In the small village of Knock there would have been some apparitions of saints and from then on the sanctuary began to be built to welcome believers from all over the world.
Meath (Republic of Ireland) - in this county stands one of the oldest buildings of mankind, Newgrange. And also the largest amusement park in Ireland, Tayto Park.
Monaghan (Republic of Ireland) - in this county it is produced one of the largest edible mushrooms in the world.
Offaly - (Republic of Ireland) - More than 20 percent of this county is Bogland, a swampy terrain typical of Ireland.
Roscommon - (Republic of Ireland) - The inhabitants of this county have the greatest life expectation of the Irish.
