All About Irish Counties

Irelandopedia é um livro muito  interessante cheio de ilustrações e com muitas curiosidades sobre os 32 condados irlandeses: os 26 da República da Irlanda e os 6 da Irlanda do Norte.

Irelandopedia is a very interesting book full of illustrations and with many curiosities about the 32 Irish counties: the 26 of the Republic of Ireland and the 6 of Northern Ireland.

É aquele tipo de obra que você pode ler e reler muitas vezes e sempre aprenderá algo novo, está cheio de pequenos textos que contam um pouco da diversidade cultural, passado, personalidades, gastronomia, etc deste país que é pequeno mas cheio de atrações e rica história.

It is that kind of work that you can read and read again several times and you will always learn something new, it is full of short texts that tell a little about the cultural diversity, past, personalities, gastronomy, etc. of this country that is small but full of attractions and rich history.

O primeiro é o condado de Antrim na Irlanda do Norte, onde fica a capital Belfast. Em Antrim também está uma das principais atrações da Irlanda no Norte, a  Giant's Causeway.

The first is County Antrim in Northern Ireland, where the capital Belfast is located. In Antrim there is also one of Northern Ireland's main attractions, the Giant's Causeway.

Armagh (Irlanda do Norte)  - A capital de mesmo nome do condado tem duas igrejas chamadas St. Patrick!

Armagh (Northern Ireland) - The capital of the same county name has two churches called St. Patrick!

Carlow - (República da Irlanda) - O famoso físico John Tyndall nasceu em Carlow. Tyndall foi a primeira pessoa que conseguiu explicar por que o céu é azul!

Carlow - (Republic of Ireland) - The famous physicist John Tyndall was born in Carlow. Tyndall was the first person who could explain why the sky is blue!

Cavan - (República da Irlanda) - Este é conhecido como o condado dos lagos pois há mais de 360! O maior deles é o Lough Sheelin.

Cavan - (Republic of Ireland) - This is known as the Lake County as there are over 360! The biggest one is the Lough Sheelin.

Clare - (República da Irlanda) Neste condado fica a principal atração turística natural da Irlanda, os Cliffs of Moher. Clique aqui para ler detalhadamente sobre os Cliffs. Mas também há outras ótimas atrações como Bunratty que mostramos detalhadamente nestes três posts: aqui, aqui e aqui. A famosa série irlandesa Father Ted, foi filmada numa casa de Clare, que está aberta a visitação pública. A gente teve a oportunidade de visitá-la e foi muito divertido já que vimos todos os episódios da série e temos os DVD's com todos os episódios.

Clare - (Republic of Ireland) In this county is Ireland's main natural tourist attraction, the Cliffs of Moher. Click here to read more about the Cliffs. But there are also other great attractions like Bunratty that we show in detail in these three posts: here, here and here. The famous Irish series Father Ted was filmed in a house in Clare, which is open to public visitation. We had the opportunity to visit it and it was great fun since we watched all the episodes of the series and we have the DVD's with all of them.

Cork (República da Irlanda) -  Nossa querida Cork!! Onde moramos por 2 anos e meio. É o maior condado da Irlanda e tem tantas coisas para visitar e conhecer! Cork nos encantou e nos surpreendeu até o nosso último dia na cidade. Uma das principais atrações de Cork é o Blarney Castle. Cork (Republic of Ireland) - Our dear Cork !! It's where we lived for two and a half years. It is the largest county in Ireland and has so many things to visit and learn! Derry (Irlanda do Norte) - Também conhecida como Londonderry. O leite de Magnésia foi inventado em Derry em 1817 por Sir James Murray.

Derry (Northern Ireland) - Also known as Londonderry. Milk of Magnesia was invented in Derry in 1817 by Sir James Murray.

Donegal (República da Irlanda) -  Recentemente conhecemos  algumas atrações estupendas de Donegal como os cliffs Slieve League, o Parque Nacional Glenveagh e Malin Head, o ponto mais ao norte da Irlanda. Clique aqui para conhecer.

Down (Irlanda do Norte) - A maioria do território de Belfast,  a capital da Irlanda do Norte, está em Antrim mas partes do leste e sul está no condado de Down. Neste condado fica o Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, que conhecemos recentemente e ambos muito bons.

Down (Northern Ireland) - most of the territory of Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, is in Antrim but parts of the east and south are in County Down. In this county is the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, which we visited recently and both were very good.

Laois (República da Irlanda)- um dos maiores festivais de verão da Irlanda é realizado em Laois, o Electric Picnic.

Lietrim - (República da Irlanda)- neste condado há diversas atrações naturais que ainda precisamos conhecer.

Limerick - (República da Irlanda) - o atual presidente da Irlanda, Michael D. Higgins nasceu em Limerick. Para conhecer a agradável capital deste condado, clique aqui.

Longford (República da Irlanda) - é um condado basicamente rural. Uma da árvores mais altas da Irlanda está em Longford com quase 40 metros. O Royal Canal de Dublin pode ser navegado até Longford!

Longford (Republic of Ireland) - it is a basically a rural county. One of Ireland's tallest trees is in Longford with nearly 40 meters high. The Dublin Royal Canal can be navigated up to Longford!

Mayo (República da Irlanda) - neste condado fica o santuário de Knock, o maior centro de peregrinação religiosa da Irlanda. No pequeno vilarejo de Knock teriam ocorrido algumas aparições de santos e a partir dai começou a ser construído o santuário para receber fiéis do mundo todo.


Mayo -(Republic of Ireland) - in this county lies the sanctuary of Knock, Ireland's largest religious pilgrimage center. In the small village of Knock there would have been some apparitions of saints and from then on the sanctuary began to be built to welcome believers from all over the world.

Meath (República da Irlanda) - neste condado fica uma das construções mais antigas da humanidade, Newgrange. E fica o maior parque de diversões da Irlanda, o Tayto Park.

Meath (Republic of Ireland) - in this county stands one of the oldest buildings of mankind, Newgrange. And also the largest amusement park in Ireland, Tayto Park.

Monaghan (República da Irlanda ) - neste condado se produz um dos maiores cogumelos comestíveis do mundo.

Monaghan (Republic of Ireland) - in this county it is produced one of the largest edible mushrooms in the world.

Offaly -  (República da Irlanda) - mais de 20 por cento deste condado é bogland, terreno pantanoso típico da Irlanda.

Offaly - (Republic of Ireland) - More than 20 percent of this county is Bogland, a swampy terrain typical of Ireland.

Roscommon - (República da Irlanda) - os moradores deste condado tem a maior expectativa de vida dos irlandeses.

Sligo (República da Irlanda) - Uma das mais famosas montanhas da Irlanda fica em Sligo, é a Benbulden.

Tipperary (República da Irlanda) - uma das maiores atrações deste condado é o Rock of Cashel (clique aqui). Em Tipperary você pode conhcer também a incrível Michelstown Cave. Clique aqui. 
Em Tipperary fica a maior e mais tradicional fábrica de cider na Irlanda, a Bulmers.
