CHRISTMAS IN IRELAND 2016

E já estamos quase no Natal, uma data tão festiva e cheia de celebrações. No post de hoje queremos te mostrar um pouco sobre o período Natalino aqui na Irlanda. Então pegue a sua bebida preferida e acompanhe o Welcome to Ireland.

And it's almost Christmas, a very festive date and full of celebrations. On today's post we want to show you a little about the Christmas time here in Ireland. So grab your favourite drink and follow Welcome to Ireland.

Algumas lojas tem uma tradição natalina muito forte e que chamam a atenção dos irlandeses.

A Arnotts é a loja de departamento mais antiga da Irlanda e sempre é uma das primeiras a decorar a suas vitrines. Este ano a ideia foi se unir à marca de batatas fritas Tayto e fazer o Crispmas! Uma brincadeira com a junção das palavras crisp (batata frita) e Christmas.

Numa das entradas da loja estava o Crispmas Workshop, onde se podia compra o crisp sanduiche (um dos mais amados aqui na Irlanda) que é pão de forma branco, manteiga e batatas (dentro do sanduíche).

Some stores have a very strong Christmas tradition which gets the attention of the Irish.

Arnotts is Ireland's oldest department store, and always one of the first to decorate their showcas. This year the idea was to get together with the crisps brand Tayto and make the Crispmas! It is a joke by putting together the words crisp and Christmas.

On one of the entrances of the store was the Crispmas Workshop, where you could buy the crisp sandwich (one of the most loved here in Ireland) which is white bread, butter and crisps (inside the sandwich). 

Dentro da Loja havia infinitos presentes e decorações de Natal com o logo da Tayto. As vitrines contavam a historia de uma das renas de Papai Noel.

A Arnotts também tem uma linda sessão de enfeites natalinos, onde você terá vontade de comprar tudo.

Inside the store there were several gift options and Christmas decorations with Tayto's logo. The showcases told the story on one of Santa Claus' reindeers.
Arnots also has a lovely department of Christmas decorations, where you will feel like buying everything.

Outra loja que chama muito a atenção das pessoas nesta época é a Brown Thomas. que tem vitrines lindíssimas e cheias de detalhes.

Another store getting loads of attention this time of the year is Brown Thomas, which has very beautiful showcases, full of details.

Muitos eventos são realizados nas ruas para a inauguração de iluminação a partir do fim de novembro. 

Este das fotos abaixo foi em Smithfield Square, onde houve diversas barraquinhas de artesanato, comida, apresentações musicais e a inauguração da linda árvore de Natal com luzes de LED.

Many events are made on the streets for turning on the Christmas lights - starting by the end of November.
This one on the pictures below was on Smithfield Square, where there were several stalls of handcraft, food, musical presentations and the unveiling of the beautiful LED Christmas tree. 

Em Smithfield também esteve o Coca Cola Christmas Truck, que encheu de alegria a praça com a presença de inúmeras crianças que junto aos seus pais não se importavam de fazer quilométricas filas para ter uma experiência virtual de andar no  trenó do Papai Noel através de óculos 3D e tirar uma foto profissional com o icônico caminhão da coca-cola.


In Smithfield we also had the Coca Cola Christmas Truck, which filled the square of happiness with the several children which along with their parents didn't mind making huge queues to have a virtual experience of riding Santa Claus sleigh through 3D glasses and having professional pictures taken with the iconic Coca-Cola truck.

E outros dois eventos natalinos ocorreram em Smithfield.

A tradicional feira no Generator Hostel e o Christmas Bazaar. Ambos excelentes locais para encontrar presentes únicos e diferentes.

And another two Christmas events took place in Smithfield. The traditional market at the Generator Hostel and the Christmas Bazaar. Both great places to find unique and different presents.

Em Dun Laoghaire, pertinho de Dublin, ocorreu o Christmas Festival On Ice, com diversas barraquinhas  de madeira que vendiam artesanato, alguns brinquedos para crianças pequenas e um rink de patinação no gelo.

In Dun Laoghaire, near Dublin, took place the Christmas Festival On Ice, with several wood stalls selling handcraft, some toys for small children and an ice skating rink.

A Farmeleigh House teve uma programação natalina especial, com feira, coro com músicas natalinas, story telling e uma pequena village onde era possível inclusive se fantasiar como na época vitoriana! 

Farmeleigh House had a special Christmas agenda, with a market, choir with Christmas songs, story telling and a small village where you could even dress up like in the Victorian period! 

É claro que os shoppings colocam muitos enfeites de Natal para atrair o público. As fotos abaixo são dos Shopping Jervis, Ilac,  Dundrum e St Stephens

Of course the shopping malls have many Christmas decorations to bring the people in. The pictures below are from Jervis, Ilac,  Dundrum and St Stephens Shopping Malls. 

O Kildare Village é um shopping ao ar livre do tipo outlet que fica no condado de Kildare, a decoração era encantadora e teve até  "neve".

Kildare Village is an outdoor shopping center of the outlet kind, which is on county Kildare, the decoration was lovely and the even had "snow".

E o que seria do Natal sem as comidas típicas?

Algumas lanchonetes e restaurantes aproveitam os dias festivos para lançar pratos e menus especiais

A Mc Donalds lançou: o Festive Cheese Feast, Spicy Chicken Winter Melt, cheese melt dippers, sorvete orange chocolate, chocolate banofee pie e para beber o Spiced Cookie Latte.

And this would not be a real Christmas without the typical food. Some fast food and regular restaurants used the festive days to launch special dishes and menus.

McDonalds released the Festive Cheese Feast, Spicy Chicken Winter Melt, cheese melt dippers, orange chocolate icecream, chocolate banofee pie and to drink Spiced Cookie Latte.

No Burger King um dos lançamentos para a época festiva foi o Cheddar Tendercrisp, uma delicia!

On Burger King one of the releases for the festive period was the Cheddar Tendercrisp, delicious!

Quando fomos a Dun Laoghaire fomos ao The Forty Food que tinha um completo menu de Natal a gente pediu o Vegetarian Wellington.

When we went to Dun Laoghaire we went to The Forty Food which had a full Christmas menu, we ordered the Vegetarian Wellington.

O Mulled Wine não pode faltar no Natal, vinho quente com especiarias. Também há a versão com Sidra. Para quem não curte álcool ou as crianças também é possível preparar com suco de uva ou maçã e fica igualmente saboroso.

The Mulled Wine needs to be present on Christmas, it's warm wine with spices. There is also a version with Cider. For those that do not like alcohol or children it is also possible to prepare with grape or apple juice and it also tastes great.

O Christmas Log  (ou Yule Log) que vem do tradicional francês Bûche de Noel também é um doce muito comum por aqui. Normalmente consiste num rocambole de chocolate (chocolate sponge swiss roll) recheado com um creme branco.

The Christmas Log  (or Yule Log) comes from the traditional French Bûche de Noel and it is also a very common sweet here. It is usually a chocolate sponge swiss roll with white cream inside.

A Gingerbread Houses  são uma tradição e que podem ser feitas em casa ou compradas em lojas e supermercados.

Here we talk about some of the typical chocolates in Ireland.

The Gingerbread Houses  are a tradition which can be made at home or purchased in stores and supermarkets.

Alguns cafés são muito típicos desta época  como o Gingerbread Latte que sempre vem com um biscoito de gengibre no topo e o Hot Chocolate with Mint, com o candy cane, que é o típico bastão que você vê nas fotos. O doce de menta vai derretendo lentamente na bebida quente e dando um saboroso sabor mentolado.

Somes kinds of coffee are very typical on this time of the year, like the Gingerbread Latte which always comes with a ginger cookie on top and the Hot Chocolate with Mint, with candy cane, which is the typical stick you see in the pictures. The mint sweet slowly melts on the hot drink giving a special mint flavor.

Se você quiser sentir a verdadeiro clima de Natal, tem que ir para as ruas! 
A decoração com luzes, árvores de Natal, pequenos coros...tudo é contagiante. As ruas centrais como Grafton, O Connell e Henry ficam realmente lindas e merecem uma visita.

If you want to feel the real Christmas mood, you need to go to the streets! 
The decoration with lights, Christmas trees, small choirs... it is all sharing the joy and happiness. Main streets like Grafton, O'Connell and Henry get really beautiful and deserve a visit.
