Room - Um Filme Extraordinário - An Extraordinary Movie

Este fim de semana será a estreia do filme irlandês Room (em co-produção com os EUA e Canadá) que está tendo muitos prêmios e elogios pelos festivais em que foi apresentado.

This weekend will be the release of the Irish movie Room (in co-production with the USA and Canada). which is getting many prizes and compliments on the festivals in which it was presented.

O diretor é o dublinense Lenny Abrahamson, e que já tinha feito anteriormente 4 filmes, como já vi todos eles achei interessante dar uma passada pela sua filmografia e depois falar de Room (que em português se chama o Quarto de Jack).

The Director is the Dubliner Lenny Abrahamson, who had previously made 4 movies, and once I had seen all of them I thought it was interesting to check his filmography and later talk about Room.

Adam e Paul

Em 2004 Abrahamson estreou com Adam e Paul, que são dois jovens drogados que acordam em um lugar abandonado sem saber como chegaram ali. O filme ocorre durante um dia na vida destes jovens que só pensam em se drogar. Eles passam as horas mendigando, fazendo pequenos furtos, se encontram com amigos. São pessoas perdidas que não tem nenhum objetivo na vida. Em todos os filmes de Abrahamson ( e neste não é diferente) a atuação é primorosa. A direção também te deixa ali como se você fosse mais um participante na vida destes pobres rapazes pelas ruas de Dublin. Agora não espere concessões, esqueça o típico filme de Hollywood que estamos acostumados a ver. Aqui se trata de cinema de autor! E da melhor qualidade.

In  2004 Abrahamson started with Adam e Paul, who are two drug addict young people who wake up in the an abandoned place without knowing how they had gotten there. The movie happens along one day on the life of these young people, who only think about getting high.  They spend their time begging, doing small robberies, meeting friends. They are lost people with no objective in life. In all Abrahamson movies (and it is not different on this one), the acting is neat. The direction also leaves you there as if you were another participant on the life of those poor lads on the streets of Dublin. But do not wait for concessions, forget the usual Hollywood film we are used to watch. here it is an authoring film! And with the best quality.

Garage

Garage mostra em detalhes a vida de Josie, um rapaz muito simples com um pequeno déficit de inteligência que cuida de um posto de gasolina caindo as pedaços no interior da Irlanda. Aqui o que conta é a atuação de Pat Shortt  no papel principal que é excepcional, o seu dia-a-dia vai sendo mostrado sem que grandes fatos ocorram. Até que  chega ao posto um ajudante adolescente e a vida de Josie começa a mudar. Abrahamson quis mostrar em Garage a dificuldade que, segundo ele, os irlandeses têm em se comunicar.

Garage shows in details the life of Josie, a very simple guy with a small intelligence deficit, who looks after a small gas station which is falling apart in Ireland's countryside. Here what matters is the acting of Pat Shortt, the main actor, who is outstanding. His day by day is being shown without many big things taking place. This is until a teenage helper arrives at the gas station, and Josie's life starts to change. Abrahamson wanted to show in Garage the difficulty that, according to him,  Irish people have to communicate to each other.

What Richard Did

Aqui o personagem principal é Richard, um adolescente de classe média de Dublin onde tem aparentemente tudo. É esportista de sucesso, inteligente, bonito e tem popularidade com os amigos. Sem pensar nas consequências Richard faz algo terrível e a partir dai sua vida desmorona totalmente. Não espere soluções fáceis. Afinal a vida também não o é!

Here the main character is Richard, a medium class teenager from Dublin, where he apparently has everything. He is a successful sportsperson, intelligent, good looking,  and is very popular among friends. Not considering the consequences, Richard does something terrible and from there his life totally falls apart. Don't wait for easy solutions. After all, life is also not easy!

Frank

Frank é um filme totalmente diferente aos anteriores já que é uma comédia de humor negro. Jon é um jovem músico que de forma inesperada começa a tocar como tecladista em uma excêntrica banda cujo vocalista é Frank que nunca tira uma máscara que usa para cobrir o rosto. Quem faz Frank é Michael Fassbender ator que tem dupla cidadania alemã e irlandesa vamos falar um pouco mais sobre o ator no próximo post.

Frank is a movie totally different from the previous ones, once it is a black humor comedy. Jon is a young musician who unexpectedly starts to play keyboards in an eccentric band whose lead singer is Frank, who never removes a mask he uses to cover his face. The actor behind Frank is Michael Fassbender, actor with double citizenship German/Irish - we are going to talk a little more about him on the following post.

Room

Em minha modesta opinião e na de muitos críticos de cinema pelo mundo Room é o melhor filme de Abrahamsom até agora, apesar de considerar incríveis todos os seus trabalhos anteriores. 

O filme começa mostrando uma jovem mãe e seu pequeno filho em um cativeiro. Esse claustrofóbico mundo vai sendo mostrado em detalhes, como o diretor gosta de fazer. A ótica é sempre do menino Jack de 5 anos, o ator Jacob Tremblay faz uma atuação memorável. 

Pouco a pouco vamos entendendo por que estão ali e como planejam sair. Não vou contar mais detalhes assim você poderá viver todas as emoções que o filme proporciona. Room estava concorrendo a 3 Globos de Ouro e ganhou um. O de melhor atriz na categoria drama, dado para Brie Larson que interpreta a mãe de Jack. E está concorrendo a 4 Oscar: melhor filme, melhor direção, atriz e roteiro adaptado. 
É um filme que vai te comover. Já coloque na programação do seu fim de semana ver Room.

In my humble opinion, and on the several movie critics around the world, Room is so far the best Abrahamsom's movie, despite considering great all his previous works. The film starts showing a your mother with her little son in a captivity. This claustrophobic world gets shown in details, as the director likes to do. The optic is always on the 5 year old boy Jack, actor Jacob Tremblay makes a memorable acting.

Little by little we start to understand why they are there, and how they plan to escape. I am not telling more details so you can live all these emotions the movies gives you. Room was running for 3 Gold Globes and won one, best actress in a Drama category, given to Brie Larson who plays Jack's mother. And it is also running for 4 Oscar awards: best movie, best direction, best actress and adapted screenplay. 
This is a movie that will touch you. Add Room to your weekend agenda.

Abrahamson já está em pré produção de seu próximo filme chamado Neverhome, sinceramente não vejo a hora de assisti-lo.
