1916: Easter Rising - Levante da Páscoa

O Easter Rising (Levante da Páscoa) foi um movimento que lutou pela a independência irlandesa e está completando o seu centenário em 2016.

The Easter Rising was a movement that fought for the Irish independence and is celebrating its centenary in 2016.

O país está comemorando massivamente a data. Inúmeros eventos foram marcados para lembrar a data. Nas livrarias há pilhas e pilhas de livros sobre o conflito.

The country is celebrating the date massivelly. Several events were scheduled to remember the date. On bookstores there are piles and piles of books about the conflict.

Enfim, a Irlanda respira constantemente o Easter Rising que acabou fracassando, os seus principais líderes foram assassinados pelo governo britânico mas foi fundamental para chegar à tão almejada independência que viria em 1922. Na St Peter Church em Cork serão realizadas diversas exposições e eventos sobre o Levante.

Ultimately, Ireland breathes constantly the Easter Rising - which failed, their main leaders were killed by the British government, but it was fundamental to land at the so longed for independence, only coming in 1922. On St Peter Church in Cork will take place many exhibits and events about the Rising.

Vale a pena dar uma passada por lá (a entrada é gratuita) e aprender um pouco mais sobre este importante fato histórico. No centro da sala principal foram construídas colunas brancas com nomes de algumas vítimas que morreram durante o conflito. Aqui foram colocados os nomes de pessoas do povo (até de crianças), que perderam as suas vidas.

It is worth going there (entrance is free) and learn a little bit more about this important historical fact. On the centre of the main hall were built white columns with the names of some of the victims that died during the conflict. Here were placed the names of members of the public (even children), who lost their lives.

Nas laterais há muita informação histórica sobre como tudo ocorreu. O Easter Rising começou em 24 de abril com um dos seus principais líderes, Pádraig Pearse, lendo a Proclamação da República na frente da GPO (General Post Office) em Dublin.

On the sides there is a lot of historical information on how everything happened. The Easter Rising started on April 24th, with one of their main leaders, Pádraig Pearse, reading the proclamation of the republic in front of the GPO (General Post Office) in Dublin.

Thomas Kent era do Condado de Cork e também foi assassinado mesmo sem ter ido a Dublin. O exército britânico o executou aqui em Cork. A estação de trem da cidade se chama Kent Station em sua homenagem.

Thomas Kent was from County Cork and was killed even without going to Dublin. The British Army killed him here in Cork. The city's train station was named Kent Station in his honor.
