Desfile de St Patrick em Dublin - St Patrick's Parade in Dublin

Nesta semana tivemos a grande comemoração de St Patrick's Day e decidimos aproveitar as festividades do fim de semana em Cork e na terça-feira, dia do feriado, fomos a Dublin conferir os eventos da Capital.

This weekend we had the great commemoration of St Patrick's Day, and we decided to enjoy the festivities in Cork on the weekend, and on Tuesday, the actual holiday, we went to Dublin to check the events on the capital.

CORK

Em Cork as festividades acontecem  na rua central da cidade, a St. Patrick Street. São montadas diversas barraquinhas de artesanato e comidas. Em um grande palco acontecem apresentações musicais e de dança. Artistas caminham pelas ruas  para divertir o público.

In Cork the festivities happened on the city main street, called St Patrick Street. They set up many handcraft and food stalls. In a big stage take place musical and dance presentations. And artists walk around the streets to amuse the people.   

DUBLIN

No dia 17 de março pegamos um ônibus cedo e fomos até Dublin. As ruas já ficam congestionadas e fechadas desde cedo. Então não é um bom negócio circular de carro pelas ruas centrais.

On March 17th we took an early bus and went to Dublin. The streets get busy and closed since early morning. So it is not a good idea to drive on the central streets.  

Para pegar um bom lugar e ver o desfile com tranquilidade é bom você chegar no máximo as 10:30 AM. O inicio estava previsto para o meio-dia mas só começou mesmo em torno das 13:00. O ambiente é de muita tranquilidade e familiar. A maior atividade dos policiais (Garda) era atender os pedidos de tirar fotos.

To get a good place and watch the parade peacefully, it is good to arrive at most by 10:30 AM. The beginning was scheduled for 12 o'clock, but it actually started around 1:00 PM. The atmosphere was peaceful and with many families. The most important activity of the police force (Garda) was to take pictures for the ones requesting. 

Todo o desfile durou em torno de 1 hora e 20 minutos.
Vá bem agasalhado, nesta época do ano ainda faz bastante frio em Dublin e é melhor ter que tirar algumas peças de roupa do que passar frio enquanto espera.


The whole parade lasted around 1 hour and 20 minutes. Wear heavy cloth, this time of the year is still very cold in Dublin, and it is better to take some layers off than getting cold while you wait. 

Depois do desfile há inúmeros eventos em toda a cidade. E aqui temos que escolher bem o lugar. Só vá para o Temple Bar e ruas centrais de Dublin se estiver procurando muita bagunça e pessoas na rua. Sabe aquele mooonte de gente andando de um lado para outro???

After the parade there are several events in the city. And here we have to choose the place very well. Just go to Temple Bar and central streets of Dublin if you are looking for a very crowded place, packed with people on the streets. It is huge amount of people walking around.

Se quiser algo  mais tranquilo vá para outros lugares. Em toda a cidade se realizam atividades. Alguma com certeza vai ter a sua cara. A gente, por exemplo, foi a um bistrô lindo e de época com uma programação especial para a data. Lá o ambiente era tranquilo e agradável. Vamos fazer um post especial sobre ele.


If you want something more relaxed, go to other places. There are activities around the city. One of them for sure will fit your style. We, for instance, went to lovely bistro with an old French style, with a special program for the date. The atmosphere there was peaceful and pleasant. We will occasionally do a special post about it.

Então a dica é escolher bem o que está procurando. Há eventos também em praças e parques para a familia.
Muita gente diz que o St Patrick's Day é o Carnaval da Irlanda. E realmente não se trata disso. Esta é uma data do orgulho de ser irlandês! Orgulho da cultura irlandesa! As pessoas só se vestem de verde e com símbolos folclóricos (como Leprechaum).

The tip is to choose well what you are looking for. There are events taking place also in squares and parks for all the family.
Many people say St Patrick's Day is Ireland's Carnival. But it actually has nothing to do with it. This is a date of pride of being Irish! Pride of the Irish culture! The people only dress on green and with folkloric symbols (as the Leprechaun).  

Os prédios ficam verdes, em fenômeno chamado "greening" e que se espalhou por todo o planeta!! Então não é Carnaval. Ambas festas tem seus encantos e são diferentes.

The buildings become green, in a phenomenon called "greening", and which has spread  all around the planet!! So this is not Carnival. Both parties have their own charm but they are different.
