Every time you use the word "boycott" you probably don't have the slightest idea this term was born here in Ireland, and the history behind it is very interesting.
Everything started around 1870 when the Englishman Charles Boycott was hired to manage Irish lands.
But Mr. Boycott was so severe and unfair with the workers the irish Land League (what would be the Rural Workers Union back there) started to demand improvements to the workers.

But in retaliation, Mr Boycott became even more tyrannical. The society decided then to avoid every and all kind of contact with him. Nobody would sell him anything, people started to stand back from him on church and even the postman refused to deliver letters to him.
The situation became so unbearable that he had to leave Ireland some late later.
Learning about this situation, the British newspaper "Times" decided to adopt the term "boycott" in allusion to the fact that took place in Ireland, every time someone was ostracized.
