Há centenas de cavernas na Irlanda. Muitas delas estão fechadas ao grande público mas algumas delas estão aberta à visitação como Mitchelstown Cave.

There are hundreds of caves in Ireland. Many of them are closed to the great public, but some of them are opened to visitation like Mitchelstown Cave.

Mitchelstown é a caverna mais antiga aberta a visitação na Irlanda que foi no ano de 1972. Mas foi descoberta muito antes, em 1833. Um homem estava retirando algumas pedras com um pé-de-cabra e sem querer o instrumento caiu numa fenda. Quando tentou resgatá-lo encontrou grandes corredores que davam acesso a enormes câmaras e cavernas.

Mitchelstown is the oldest cave opened to visitation in Ireland, since 1972. But it was discovered much sooner, in 1833. A man was quarrying limestone accidentally dropped his crowbar into a crevice. When he tried to rescue it, he found great corridors which gave access to huge chambers and caves.

Mitchelstown é realmente uma caverna incrível! 

Você fica a centímetros de belíssimas "obras" geológicas como enormes estalactites, estalagmites e colunas de calcita.

Como não havia outros turistas tivemos uma simpática guia só para a gente, que deu muitas explicações durante 50 minutos. 

Uma curiosidade: morcegos não gostam da caverna. E os cientistas não sabem o motivo ainda.

Mitchelstown is really an incredible cave! 

You are centimetres away from beautiful geological "works" such as huge estalactites, estalagmites and calcite columns. Once there were no other tourist, we had a friendly guide only for us, who gave loads of explanations during 50 minutes.
One curiosity: bats don't like this cave. And the scientists still don't know the reason.

Em Mitchelstown (que fica no Condado de Tipperary a 50 Km de Cork City e cerca de 190 Km de Dublin) foi servido o primeiro banquete underground do país.

Na década de 90 um programa de TV foi transmitido ao vivo desde as profundezas da caverna pela primeira vez na Irlanda.

E é aqui que acontece um concerto de verão todos os anos.

A acústica nesses grandes salões é fantástica. Para aproveitá-la a Opera House aqui de Cork organiza este concerto. Ficamos muito interessados com o Alex. Imaginamos quão incrível deve ser ver um espetáculo nesse lindo lugar. Em anos passados os ingressos se esgotaram em poucos minutos!

In Mitchelstown (which is located on Tipperary County, 50 Km from Cork City and 190 Km from Dublin) it was served the first underground banquet of the country. 
On the 90s, a TV show was transmitted live from the deepness of the cave for the first time in Ireland.
And it is here that a summer concert happens every year. The acoustic on these great halls is fantastic. To take advantage of it, Cork Opera House organizes these concerts. Alex and I were very interested on it.  We try to imagine how terrific it should be to watch a show on this lovely place. In previous years the tickets were over in just a few minutes!

O tour é bastante tranquilo, a não ser pela escada no começo da caverna que tem quase 90 degraus. Se você tem algum problema de locomoção vai ser cansativo.

Lá dentro a temperatura constante é de 12 graus. É prudente levar um casaco. E vá de tênis ou calçados apropriados para terrenos irregulares.

The tour is very easy, except for the staircase on the beginning of the cave which have almost 90 steps. If you have any movement problem, it will be exhausting.

Os donos de Mitchelstown, querem deixar o lugar o mais preservado possível. Então lá você não vai encontrar Centro de Visitantes, coffee shop nem souvenirs. Uma senhora vende as entradas, você espera a guia num quiosque, faz o tour e vai embora.

Os donos proíbem terminantemente qualquer tipo de foto no interior da caverna. Estas que mostram o interior de Mitchelstown são da Internet.

Um passeio imperdível!!!

The owners of Mitchelstown want to keep the place the most preserved they can. So you will not find there any visitor's centre, coffee shop or souvenirs. A lady sells the tickets and you wait the guide in a kind of shelter, you take the tour, and then you leave. The owners totally prohibit any kind of picture taken on the interior of the cave. The ones that show the interior of Mitchelstown are from the internet. 

It is an unmissable tour!!!
