Nesta sexta-feira, 31 de outubro, é o Dia das Bruxas ou Halloween.
Esta data é sempre associada aos EUA mas na verdade a sua origem se deu os povos celtas da grã-bretanha e Irlanda. E foi levada para os EUA por imigrantes.
Originalmente não tinha nada a ver com bruxas. O calendário celta irlandês comemorava de 30 de outubro a 2 de novembro o Festival Shamhain, que significa "fim do verão".

 This Friday, October 31st, is Halloween.
This date is always associated with the USA, but its true origin is on the Celtic people of Great Britain and Ireland. And it was taken to the USA by immigrants.
Originally it didn't have any relation with witches. The Irish Celtic calendar used to commemorate from October 30th to November 2nd the Shamhain Festival, which means the "end of the summer".

Essa data se misturou com a celebração pagã de culto aos mortos e mais tarde ao Dia do Todos os Santos. Os Celtas acreditavam que na noite do dia 31 de outubro os mortos voltavam a suas casas.

 This date was mixed with the pagan celebration on the cult of the dead, and later All Saints (All Hallows) Day. The Celts believed on the night of October 31st, the dead came back to their houses.

Hoje ficou apenas um resquício de tudo isso. E associamos o Halloween a histórias de terror, mortos-vivos, bruxas, fantasmas, caveiras, etc. Na verdade é tudo uma brincadeira para as pessoas se divertirem, usarem fantasias e as crianças pedirem guloseimas.


 Today we only have a trace of this. And we associate Halloween with horror stories, zombies, witches, ghosts, caves, etc. It is really a fun activity for people getting entertained, wearing costumes and the children going trick or treating.   

A Irlanda fica muito animada para a data!!! 
Muitas lojas vendendo todo tipo de acessórios, perucas, fantasias.
Nos supermercados podemos achar as tradicionais abóboras para serem esculpidas e servirem de decoração. Há muitos outros alimentos com formatos de caveira, morcegos e fantasminhas.
Este bolo de chocolate que compramos para o nosso Halloween, por exemplo, tem o formato de uma abóbora.

 Ireland gets very happy for this date!!!
Many stores sell all kinds of accessories, like wigs and costumes. In the supermarkets, we can find the traditional pumpkins for carving and using as a decoration. There are many other types of food with the shape of caves, bats and ghosts. This chocolate cake, which we bought for our Halloween, has the shape of a pumpkin.

Um bolo muito tipico é o Barm Brack, falamos mais sobre ele aqui.
O prato típico que é comido por algumas famílias é o Colcannon. Também já comentamos sobre ele aqui.
Muita gente vai a festas à fantasia ou a um PUB mesmo.
No ano passado fomos ao Rocky Horror Night na Opera House aqui em Cork. Este ano vai ter o mesmo espetáculo. Foi bastante divertido. Para saber mais detalhes clique aqui.

 A very typical cake is the Barm Brack, we have already spoken about it here.
The typical dish consumed by some families is the Colcannon. We also have already talked about it here.
Many people go to Costume / Disguise parties or even to a Pub.

Este ano vamos ao Dragon of Shandon Festival. Serão 3 dias de apresentações artísticas, circenses, festas, dança. Tudo com o tema de Halloween, obviamente.
A gente já comprou nossas maquiagens faciais e sangue artificial.....hahah. 


 This year we will go to the Dragon of Shandon Festival. There will be 3 days of artistic presentations, circus, parties, dance. All with Halloween theme, of course.
We have already got our facial make up and artificial blood hehehe.... 

O ponto alto será a Dragon Parade, um desfile com um Dragão de 11 metros que este ano será todo feito de fitas. Veja um pouco sobre o festival neste vídeo aqui.
