Ireland's countryside is full of little gems. On the small town of Foynes, on county Limerick, you will find a very interesting museum, the Foynes Flying Boat Museum. O Museu mostra todos os anos de glória deste meio de transporte.
Last century during the 30s these flying boats arrived here because they had the autonomy to travel from Europe to North America. It was a great technological advance for the period. This place was chosen because of the strategical location, Shannon River is next to it, and it was ideal for the water landing of these flying boats. The Museum shows all the years of glory for this means of transportation.
The Flying Boats were fundamental during the Second World War.
The first company to do the crossing was pan Am. We can still see several objects from the period.
There is an interactive Pilot Training Room!
The highlight of the museum is the precise replica of a Boeing 314 Flying Boat!
It is an amusing experience and one that gets the attention from adults and children, after all who had the opportunity to be inside a flying boat and see all the details so close? Even at the time very few people could travel on it. The price for ticket was very high, so it was a luxury that very few could afford.
On the upper floor were the pilots, luggage and equipment!Veja neste pequeno video um hidroavião em funcionamento exatamente igual ao que mostramos no post. Os pilotos, os passageiros e uma aquaplanagem!
The golden period of flying boats ended on the 40s with the construction and the opening of the Shannon Airport.Have a look at this short video a functional flying boat similar to the one we showed on the post. The pilots, and passengers and the water landing!
On the same building don't miss visiting also the Maritime Museum, where it is approached the importance of the Shannon river for the region.IRISH COFFEE
And you can't talk about Foynes without mentioning it was exactly here that one of the most traditional Irish drinks was born, the Irish Coffee.
We can even watch a holographic video where it tells how everything started. Some passengers arrived in a very cold and rainy day and asked the chef Joe Sheridan for a strong coffee so they could get warmer.
On this mirror you can follow the holographic video about the Irish Coffee introduction!
That was when he had the idea of pouring a shot of Irish Whiskey and some cream on the top. The customers loved it!!! And they would have asked it that a Brazilian coffee. The chef replied: "no, this is Irish coffee". As we know, from that time on, it was fully successful. On Foynes Museum we can buy the cups of Irish Coffee and enjoy the drink at the tearoom with the decoration from the 50s. We were not able to taste it because it was still morning and we had to drive the whole day.
And now that you finished reading this post, you can already answer the title of this post!
