GPO: Onde tudo aconteceu - Where it all happened

O grande acontecimento histórico irlandês que está completando 100 anos é o Easter Rising (Levante da Páscoa), movimento que lutou pela independência do país e que fracassou. Seus líderes foram assassinados pelo governo britânico mas foi fundamental para chegar à tão almejada independência alguns anos depois.
E hoje o Welcome to Ireland te leva para o local onde tudo ocorreu, que é o GPO (General Post Office - Central de Correios) imponente prédio construído em estilo Georgiano na região central de Dublin, na O'Connell Street.

The great Irtish historical happening celebrating its 100th years is the Easter Rising, movement that fought for the country's independence and failed. Their leaders were murdered by the British government but it was fundamental to land at the so expected independence a few years later.
Today Welcome to Ireland takes you to place where everything happened, the GPO (General Post Office), imposing building constructed in Georgian style in the central area of Dublin, on O'Connell Street.

The exhibition is called GPO Witness History.

No começo da exposição é dada um bom embasamento histórico da época em que a Irlanda estava inserida em 1916.
No começo do século 20, a Irlanda vivia um período de retomada da suas raízes, idioma, literatura, arte e esportes. Isso fez com com que despertasse nos irlandeses um grande sentimento de identidade. Nessa época foram criadas por exemplo o Irish Literature Theatre e Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

Right after 12 noon on the Easter Monday in 1916 a rebel group took over the GPO, let go all employees and customers from the place and made their HQ.
On the beginning of the exhibition is given a good foundation of the time Ireland was inserted in 1916.
On the beginning of the 20th century, Ireland lived a period of repossession of its roots, language, literature art and sports. This made an awakening on the Irish of a great identity feeling. On this time were created, for instance, the Irish Literature Theatre and the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

Um dos líderes Patrick Pearse leu à frente da GPO a Proclamação da República da Irlanda.
O contra ataque britânico não demorou a aparecer, o prédio ficou em chamas e em ruínas. Os líderes conseguiram fugir por alguns túneis, mas não resistiram por muito tempo e se renderam 6 dias após o inicio do Levante.

In front of the GPO, Patrick Pearse, one of the leaders, read the Irish Republic Proclamation.
The British counter attack didn't take long to happen, the building was in flames and ruins. The leaders managed to escape through some tunnels but didn't resist for long and surrendered 6 days after the beginning of the Rising.
