Two Strolls in Wicklow
On our previous post we wrote about Avoca's weaving mill in Wicklow and we promised a ost showing two strolls you can do in the region, which are very interesting.RED KITE WALK
The Red Kite Walk is a 2.5 Km loop shaped moderate level walk on Kilmagig forest. The parking lot is in front of the church on Avoca town. In some parts of the trails it gets a bit more steep, but it is nothing very tiring.
It is possible to see the small town while you walk in the trail, which is very peaceful - when we were there, we didn't see anybody else. There are also many birds, and you can listen to their singing along the stroll.
The region is a birdwatcher's obervation spot. Red Kite is precisely the name of a local bird. If you want you can take your dog, once pets are allowed there.THE MEETING OF THE WATERS
A few quilometers from the trail is The Meeting of the Waters, which is where rivers Beg and Avonmore get merge to form the important Avoca River. In a small park you can see exactly the spot where they merge, the surrounding nature is amazing.
We were there on the beginning of Spring, when the Cherry trees are fully blossoming
This place is also important because the famour Irish writer, singer and composer Thomas Moore wrote the famous song The Meeting of the Waters.
The place is so calm and beautiful it really inspires good moments of contemplation - of composition as it was the case for Thomas Moore.
The remainings of the tree under which Moore had relaxed to write the famous song are still there.
Don't miss having a good tea or coffee on the coffee shop next to the park. The pastries are delicious and you will have a wonderful view from the Meeting of the Waters. And if you prefer a pint, on the top floor there is a good Irish Pub.
