Cobh: Última Parada do Titanic / Titanic's Last Port of Call

Cobh é uma pequena cidade que fica a uns 20 km de Cork (e a 260 KM de Dublin) conhecida por ter sido a última parada do Titanic antes do seu fatídico naufrágio.
Ali muitos passageiros desceram e muitos subiram. E para saber exatamente como tudo aconteceu, você pode visitar o Cobh Titanic Experience, um museu com bastante interatividade e informações interessantes sobre um dos mais dramáticos naufrágios do século 20.

 Cobh is a small town around 20 km from Cork (and 260 km from Dublin) known for being Titanic's last port of call before its fateful shipwreck. Some passengers came down, and others went up. And to know exactly how everything happened, you can visit Cobh Titanic Experience, a museum with a lot of interactivity and interesting information about one of the most dramatic shipwreck on the 20th century. 

O museu fica inclusive onde eram vendidos os bilhetes  em 1912 e ali mesmo também ficava o porto onde as pessoas embarcavam - pena que está em péssimo estado de conservação.

The museum is located exactly where the tickets were sold in 1912, and in the same place was also located the port where people would embark - it is a pity its bad preservation state.

Mas Cobh merece uma visita por outras atrações além do Titanic!!! Ela tem um dos maiores portos naturais do mundo e era destino de inúmeros navios de cruzeiros internacionais.

But Cobh deserves a visit for other attractions besides the Titanic! It has one of the largest natural harbors in the world, and it was the destination of several international cruise ships.

Outra curiosidade é que a cidade teve 3 nomes!! O primeiro nome foi Cove. Em 1849 com a visita da Rainha Vitória passou a se chamar Queenstown e a partir de 1921 voltou às origens, mas com a grafia um pouco diferente.  Com a tal visita da rainha a cidade ganhou esta bonita praça que fica no centro.

Another curiosity is that the town had 3 different names! The first was Cove. In 1849 with Queen Victoria's visit it started being called Queenstown and from 1921 onwards it went back to its origin, but with a different spelling. With the such Queen's visit, the town got this beautiful square located in the city centre.

Um ponto turístico que merece também uma visita é a St. Colman´s Cathedral  em estilo neogótico, situada numa colina, pode ser vista de qualquer ponto da cidade.

Another touristic spot that is worth visiting is St. Colman´s Cathedral, in neo-gothic style, located on the top of a hill, which can be seen from anywhere in town.

Em Cobh fica também o The Queenstown Story, um importante museu que mostra como foi a migração irlandesa. Pelo porto da cidade milhares de pessoas migraram para países como Estados Unidos, Canadá e Austrália. Mas a gente vai falar mais detalhadamente sobre esse assunto num outro post.

In Cobh you can also find The Queenstown Story, an important museum that shows how the Irish migration happened. Through the town's harbor, thousands of people migrated to countries like the USA, Canada and Australia. But we will talk about it in more details in another post.
