Estes dias a gente encontrou um querido casal numa loja aqui no centro de Cork e eles comentaram que adoravam ler o Welcome to Ireland e que estavam agendando algumas viagens pela Irlanda com as dicas que a gente passa aqui no blog.
A gente ficou muito feliz com isso!! E gostaríamos muito de conhecer quem está do outro lado da tela!

One of these days we met a very nice couple in a store here in Cork and they commented to us they loved reading Welcome to Ireland and they were already scheduling some trips around Ireland with the recommendations we give in the blog.
We were very happy with this!! And we would also love to know the readers on the other side of the screen!

Há alguns dias a gente comentou sobre algumas tradições de Natal na Irlanda (aqui).

A few days ago, we commented about some of the Christmas traditions in Ireland (here).

E claro que há várias outras, como o visco ou mistletoe como é chamado por aqui.

And of course there are others, like the mistletoe.

MISTLETOE

Faz parte da tradição ter esta planta no Natal, cheia de mágica e mistérios, que teria entre outros dons o poder da fertilidade. Apesar de ser tão comum agora no Natal a sua origem sagrada é pagã! Os druidas celtas faziam vários rituais com esta planta.
O beijo sob o visco também é algo bastante comum. Os casais que se beijam sob a planta terão muita prosperidade e felicidade diz a lenda.

It is part of tradition to have this plant over Christmas, full of magic and mysteries, which would have among other gifts the power of fertility.
Despite being very common over Christmas, its sacred origin is pagan! Celtic druids made many rituals with this plant.
The kiss under the mistletoe is also very common. Couples who kiss under the plant will have loads of prosperity and happiness, says the legend.

Alguns dias antes do Natal há vendedores de visco pelas ruas aqui na Irlanda.
Todos querem ter o visco em casa já que é considerado um poderoso amuleto protetor para o ano que se inicia em poucos dias.
E serve para decorar a mesa de Natal.

A few days before Christmas there are people selling mistletoes on the streets here in Ireland.
Everybody wants to have the mistletoe at home, once it is considered a powerful protector talisman for the year that is about to begin in a few days.
And it is also used for decorating the table over Christmas.

TREE OF REMEMBRANCE

A Tree of Remembrance é uma tradição muito singela é até tocante.
Fitas amarelas são colocadas nesta enorme árvore com o nome daqueles que já partiram. Em troca você colabora com instituições de caridade.

The Tree of Remembrance is a very humble tradition, and even touching.
Yellow ribbons are placed on this huge tree with the name of the people who left. In exchange you collaborate with charities.
