Tradições de Natal Irlandesas - Irish Christmas Traditions

O Natal está quase chegando e com ele chegam também todas as tradições que são tão típicas desta época do ano.

Christmas is arriving, and also arrive along the traditions which are typical from this period of the year.

HOLLY BOUGH

Aqui em Cork a época de Natal começa quando o Holly Bough chega às bancas, uma edição especial de fim de ano do jornal Evening Echo que é lançada desde 1897!

Here in Cork the Christmas season starts when the Holly Bough arrives on the newsstands, an end of the year special edition from the Evening Echo newspaper,  released since 1897!

Há muitas matérias sobre a história de Cork e várias sessões como brincadeiras para as crianças, moda, palavras cruzadas, culinária e até uma onde os leitores tiram fotos com o Holly Bough em diversas partes no mundo. Natal aqui em Cork tem que ter uma edição do Holly Bough em casa.

Outras duas tradições que divertem tantos adultos como crianças são os Advent Calendars e Christmas Crackers.

There are many articles about the history of Cork, and many sections like games for children, fashion, crossword puzzles, culinary, and even one where readers take pictures with the Holly Bough in several parts of the world. Christmas here in Cork must have one Holly Bough edition at home.

Other two traditions which amuse both adults and children are the Advent Calendars and Christmas Crackers.

ADVENT CALENDAR

O Advent Calendar é típico em vários outros países também, e se trata de um calendário que marca os dias prévios de Natal. Geralmente começa no dia primeiro de dezembro e a cada dia as crianças abrem uma pequena "janela" e retiram um pequeno chocolate e até o dia de Natal.

The Advent Calendar is also typical in several other countries, and it is a calendar which marks the dates previous to Christmas day. It usually starts on the first day of December, and  each day children open a little "window" and retrieve a small chocolate until Christmas day.

Há inúmeros tipos de Advent Calendars com estampas variadas.

Há até as opções para os pets! E no lugar do chocolate há um pequeno biscoito.

There are several types of Advent Calendars with different pictures.

There are even some options for pets! And instead of chocolate, there is a small cookie.

CHRISTMAS CRACKERS

Os crackers foram uma novidade para nós pois não os conhecíamos antes de vir para a Irlanda. 

E aqui estão em todas as mesas de Natal. Eu até levei crackers para o Brasil no Natal do ano passado pois é uma tradição muito divertida. 

Trata-se de um tubo como você pode ver pelas fotos. Sempre decorado com cores e motivos natalinos.

The crackers were something new for us, because we didn't know them before coming to Ireland.

And here they are in all Christmas tables. I even took crackers to Brazil last year because it is a very fun tradition.

It is a tube as you can see on the pictures. It is always decorated with colors and with Christmas themes.

A brincadeira consiste em duas pessoas puxando as extremidades do crackers. Ganha quem fica com parte maior.

The game consists of two people pulling the ends of the crackers. The winner is the one who keeps the larger part.

No interior sempre há uma coroa de papel e que as pessoas a colocam na noite da ceia, uma piada ou charada e algum pequeno presente. Neste da foto, por exemplo, é um calendário de 2016.

On the inside there is always a paper crown, which people wear on the eve, a joke or charade, and a little gift. On this picture, for example, is a 2016 calendar.

Outra tradição tipicamente irlandesa são os  blusões com estampa natalinas. Nas festas de fim de ano das empresas todos vão vestidos com esses jumpers, como são conhecidos por aqui.

Another typically Irish tradition are the jumpers with Christmas themes. On the companies end of year parties, all go dressed with these jumpers.

Nas ruas é fácil ver muitas pessoas usando estas divertidas peças de roupas. Estes das fotos são do programa The Late Late Toy Show.
